After considering all the comments and going for a visit to my BMW dealer, I decided on the regular Burl Walnut rather than the Light Poplar.

I think this will be best with the black leather interior.

I only wish BMW would use the same color wood as Mercedes uses. It's a little lighter and really beautiful. BMW used to use the same color as Mercedes, but changed with the new 5 and 7 series came out. Don't know why, unless it just wanted to be different. Different is not always better ....

Oh, did I make a comment on Bangle's 7 and 5 design? It must has just slipped out....

LOL

I like the look of aluminum, it sets off the sculptural forms in the interior, but feel it's rather 'cold' with the black. Somehow I feel it would be appropriate in a more clearly performance version of the car (M)...

I'm swayed to the darker Burl partially because the combination is similar to what I've been driving for the last many years. When I first got the Passat I thought the wood was too 'dentisty' but I've since grown to appreciate it...

Now, if near-black birdseye maple or carbon-fiber were regular options, I'd go with one of those.
