There is no such thing as "a 911."

As the owner of a 2003, 911, 996TT, and someone who looked at, test drove, and almost bought a representative of all of the following versions, they are so hugely different as to almost not even be the same car:

996 Cabriolet
996 Coupe
997 911S
997 911
my current 996TT

plus others. And I haven't even mentioned any of the older air-cooled versions, which I have yet to have the pleasure to drive. Of course, all of these models are historic, and the current model is vastly different still, with its EPS, and price that would make your banker blush.

I feel bad for the seller....has no idea what was sold. 892 miles? Shame. I drive mine guiltlessly because I paid a fair price for it and never expected it to gain value. I'll never regret the time spent at the track.

Okay, perhaps a new base Carrera? Or even a new Cayman GTS. Don’t get me wrong, love my 1 series, I just wouldn’t pay over $92k for one. But to each their own, right? I watch Mecum and see cars I wouldn’t bid on yet people pay six figures for. Paying that much money for a car never really driven, and that the buyer can’t enjoy either unless they don’t care about the depreciation just doesn’t make sense to me. And with it sitting for 8 years, wouldn’t there need to be some work done to ensure it was road worthy?

I wouldn't spend $92K on a 1M, either. I was just saying that although the model # 911 hasn't changed through many years, the cars really have.

On the subject of Porsches, some people assume that their sports cars are all pretty wonderful. Go have a look at an old Boxster, like a 2000 model, and you will see that Porsche was fully capable of making pieces of shit.

I'd never ever ever pay $60k for a 4 banger 718 that sounds like a VW...seriously

Makes a $90k 1M look like a screaming bargain really!!!

Herr Krebs is Steffen Krebs. His family owns the dealership that has the car listed, so maybe that is just more of a promotional listing than a real selling effort. You can see that the back of the car has a "Steffen Edition" logo on it.

And the back story is that Steffen Krebs is the grandson of Paul Krebs, who apparently started a meaningful partnership with BMW just after WW1. So I guess that was the clout you needed to get an individual 1M built - just have a 90 year family relationship with BMW.

Agreed. sounds like it really is more of a promotional vehicle for the dealership. I doubt it is truly for sale.

I paid less than $60k for my four banger Porsche and I didn’t pay sticker for my Corvette either.

The real question: how much did it beat the market by? Had the owner invested the money into a SnP index in 2011 would the sum of his investment be worth more than 92.5k?

June 2011 to October 2018= 125.405% in the SnP 500

Let's use an avg 1 M base price of 49k. And you would end up with $110,470.

The owner did get to drive it for 892 miles but he essentially paid $20 per mile... (an Aventador cost about $17 per mile lol)

My point: it's really hard to make a good buck being cars as an investment. The real winners in are the 1M buyers that bought the car, drove it for 20-40k miles then sold it for about what they paid for in 2011

The colour is horrible if you ask me, price has not changed since i saw it in December 2017 and still for sale. Personally i doubt anyone will buy it, due to the colour, but still shows what a horrid colour (my opinion) and 50K mileage can go for.

as great of a car as the 1M was/is, I really cant comprehend 90 grand. it's a phenomenal little car, but it's no Z06 or 911. it's no M4 CS. fuck ton of money for a "sort of quick-ish" car

Was this eBay?

Countless "sold" cars never get truly sold on eBay.

How reputable is car gurus at reporting selling prices? Is this a formal auction price or just some number an hourly e-commerce employee at a dealer punched in?

In late 2011 I found an E82 1M for my client after production had ended. He realized that I was correct that it was going to be a great car after telling him about it for 18 months.

He still has his 997.1 911 Turbo he ordered with special equipment and basically stopped driving it because he immediately fell in love with his 1M after the first drive.

He said it felt alive in his hands, and that the Turbo was crazy in regards to power and speed but the 1M has power one can use without going to jail.

He still says he will never sell it. His 1M only has 1,200 miles and he has put on 200 of it.

The only thing special about this car is that so few were made. The M2 is better in every regard, and it looks waaay better. The only reason to buy this car at that price is because it's your unicorn.

I must be alone but drove two 1Ms on two different occasions with the intent to buy and just could not do it. I had an F80 M3 at the time and the 1M felt inferior in every way. So the only thing going for it were the looks and bragging rights. I don't care about bragging rights so that left me with just looks.

I never buy anything on looks alone so I still have yet to experience what makes these cars so desirable, maybe some that also loves to drive cars can enlighten me...

the 1M is really overhyped. its basically a modern E36 M3. that's great, but it's not 90 grand great. my E36 is fully built, and the interior is modernized, and it's a far superior car to the 1m I almost bought before I got an F80. I just cant imagine spending almost 100 grand on a car that a 340i blows the doors off
