**UPDATE!** Any Interest in an MTF-LT-5 or Pentosin FFL-3 Group Buy (U.S.)?

UPDATE! Look for a new thread tomorrow with more details. I have a BMW dealer who is willing to help out the forum by selling BMW MTF-LT-5 (P/N 83 22 2 239 654) for $24.90 per liter. This is the dealer cost and is 30% below the list price of $35.57. The ordering window will be open for a week. Shipping for up to 3 liters will be $7.95 - this includes Alaska and Hawaii. There are also options for ordering more than 3 liters.

UPDATE! Here is the thread for the MTF-LT-5 group buy: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=650895

Hello All,

Since a lot of dealers are putting in the wrong manual transmission fluid and it's a simple DIY job and BMW NA isn't covering this service for our 1,200 mile run-in service, I'm considering organizing a group buy for manual transmission fluid for the 1M.

Let me know if you're interested in any of the following:
  1. Official BMW MTF-LT-5 ONLY - P/N 83 22 2 239 654
  2. Pentosin FFL-3 (same as LT-5, just not in the BMW bottle) - P/N 1052107
  3. Porsche P/N 000 043 207 29 (same as LT-5, just not in the BMW bottle)
  4. Any of the above would be fine, just find the best deal
See this thread for more details on these fluids.

I think the best deal will be on Pentosin FFL-3, but some people may only want the BMW-labeled product. There's probably not much of a point in going after the Porsche label, since it's likely going to be more expensive than Pentosin FFL-3 and it's still not branded BMW, but I can look into it.

Let me know how many liters you'd like (2 liters is enough for 1 MTF service with some left over and 3 liters should be enough for 2 MTF services. I just changed mine and it took about 1.3 liters).

Also let me know any thoughts you have on what price ($ price or % off list) would make this attractive to you.

If there is enough interest, I'll post an official sign-up thread with the details. You're not committing to anything at this point; I'm just gauging interest.

Thanks!

I was just at the dealership today inquiring the price of the LT-5 gear box oil. At first they showed me LT3 and I told them 1M needs LT5. They found it eventually with me providing them the part number. It costs $53.50 (Canadian) per unit! Can someone tell me how many units do you normally need in a 1M?

2 liters should cover you. I did mine today and it took 1.3 liters.

I'll take 2 liters of whatever's least expensive. Pentosin FFL-3 looks to be about $25 a bottle online.

EDIT: I'll take 3 liters.

Including shipping, I think that's about right. This place has it for $21.37 per liter + $8.95 for ground shipping (the price was the same for 2 or 3 liters, but I didn't get all the way through the checkout process).

http://www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/...01104040.html?

Total for 2 liters including shipping - $51.69 ($25.84/liter delivered)
Total for 3 liters including shipping - $73.06 ($24.35/liter delivered)

You should be able to get 2 fluid changes out of 3 liters so if you get 3 liters your cost per MTF service is $36.53. Hopefully with a group buy we can do even better.

I'll let this go through the weekend to see if there is enough interest. If ~20 people show interest, I'll go ahead and start working on it!

For those who haven't replied yet, don't forget to let me know if you require BMW MTF-LT-5 or if you're okay with Pentosin FFL-3. It's the same thing, just with different labels.

That's a good price! I bought FFL-3 from RM European and believe I paid $25.99/liter.

Okay. Thanks for the responses. I'll get going on this; I'll look at MTF-LT-5 and Pentosin FFL-3.

If I find something worthwhile I'll post an updated thread. If not, I'll update this thread so you know.

Do we know if there was any long-term effects of driving our cars with the MTF3 fluid inside the transmission case in place of the MTF5 ?

I would like to make a bigger deal about this than I already have
