Lightbulb Excited 135i owner has a few questions...

Picked up my 08 135i yesterday and has a blast knocking through the gears last night. It's high mileage ~126,000 but the interior and exterior are flawless. My one complaint through driving it is the squeaking brakes! How embarrassing! I took a look at the pads and they look fine. Going to take it to a dealer to get a full diagnostic run just because I want to make sure it's all good. Is it just the high performance brakes or could something be wrong?

Welcome and congrats!

Probably just need to be cleaned up and relubricated. Mine have never squealed, even when the pads get low.

Brake dust does it for me. Last a week after washing or rain. But once it builds up it wines like crazy.

I find lightly braking to a stop squeaks the most.

Welcome to the club Ladydragonz and congrats on your purchase. 126,000 huh. That baby's well broken in. My brakes never squeak either, but it couldn't hurt to have it checked out. Pics asap.

Yea the light braking is the worst. I read somewhere that hard braking gets rid of a "glaze" but I did some hard stops last night and still have that annoying sound.

Give it a few good hard stops. I wager it'll go away.

Mine squeak some. And the fronts were done 12 months ago, the rears in January.
At the dealer. I'll have to try the hard braking too.

Mine squeak as well. I get all of one day (40 miles) before they are black from dust.

Mine squeak as well, at low speeds.

Welcome and enjoy the car. Hope it'll last you another 100k.

Very true. This car has incredible brakes.

A couple years ago I took my car to a local shop for tires and the young guys working there were oohing and aaaahing about the 6 piston calipers... lol

These cars have squeaky brakes... that's just the way it goes. Nothing wrong, car still stops just fine!

Find a location where you can get to 60mph and brake HARD (to a stop) safely. Do that at least ten times.

These breaks are noisey. Ive been through 4 different pad types, companies, and intended uses. A few hard brake stops will redeposit pad material on the rotor, but only for a short time. make a few light pressure stops and the deposit will be gone. Best bet is to clean the caliper, and hardware, then reinstall with new lubricant. That will help for a short time.

Sounds like something that I need to work on. The hard stops are not a permanent solution. The brakes are fine and the car stops on a dime , these are amazing compared to anything that I have ever driven before. Probably just needs to be cleaned up and re lubricated.

Don't light brake. Only brake when you really mean it.

Problem solved.

My brakes never make any noise.
