N54 Oil Recommendation

For those of you who have your cars already, what is the recommended oil?

I read in the Bimmerworld OLOA blog that they were switching to the 10W-60 Castrol Motorsport oil to help with oil temps.

The N54 isn't a new engine so a multi-year technically savvy reply to your Q would be worth seeking. I'd suggest you post your Q to Mike Miller at BMW CCA, who will respond to your email no matter whether your Q ends up in his monthly Tech Talk column (in Roundel) or not. FWIW he's addressed this Q before as have some of his main (independent long-term BMW mechanics) and their answers are very interesting & informative. (You can read some of them in past digital copies of the Roundel).

Of course, you first need to be a BMW CCA member - cheap, and with tons of informational and event benefits.

Wasn't Miller the one who recommended a Honda Accord as the ideal track car?

BTW, CCA member since '92.

Use BMW 5W30 or Mobil 1 0W40. That's it.
