I think that with the idea of them offering a lower entry point into the ///M division, it will not be limited in number but more in run, allowing them to gauge interest in such a vehicle and plan out the next one.

My guess is that any other 1M exterior or interior color choices can be easily -and expensively- taken care of by Individual.

I agree, I need a sunroof and blue to make me a buyer. A focused E30 M3 replacement with premium pkg? The E30 M3 had a sunroof available. Strange choices.

Now, the lack of a "unique" M engine in the car might turn M fans off, which is totally understandable.
I disagree. If you are really a "M person" you would then have to tear out the AC, audio system, and rear seat and track it only. This is a street car first. If you want to race there are many true track cars available and will be more fun there.

Wanting attractive colors in the year 2011 and a sunroof for street driving is not unreasonible. Why does BMW think Sat and idrive add to the driving experience more than a sunroof?

While the lack of a sunroof won't stop me from being the car, I would've liked to have it as an available option. Sometimes it's nice just to crack the sunroof to get some air. On glorious fall days, it's nice to go for a cruise with the windows and sunrood open. Like I said, it won't stop me from buying the car.

I will say that I had an Integra Type R prior to my 135i, it had no sunroof either. I was definately glad that 1er did have one and I would like one in the ///M, but it would not stop me from buying the car. And personally like the Type R that only had two color choices, yellow and black. I dont mind that there are only three choices. I have a white 1er and would probably get it again in white. Does anybody know if they are going to charge more for the Valencia Orange?

+1. This car is very unique, very performance oriented. The fact it is manual only, light weight, compact and has the M treatment are a welcome step backwards from the e92 M3 and many modern sports cars. So many are "all in", including me, and lack of a sunroof or color options is not going to matter.

I like the fact that when I do see another 1M on the road, I can give him/her a thumbs-up for being a crazy nut -- for driving a pure, enthusiast car despite the limited options.

For everyone else, thumbs-up too. Drive what you like.

I'm exciting the car doesn't have a sunroof, you get a little more room for hemet clearance. Though a hand crank roof would be sweet.

Can't recall where I saw, but it looks like it'll be just the same old $550 charge for the 2 metallic colors (Sapphire Black and Valencia Orange). No other upcharge.

Couple of reasons...

It's an M car, so maintenance past 50K miles will be pricey

It's based on an older design/car, so at the end of a 3 year lease, there will probably be a new 1M out for me to hop into. Plus, the 1 series design will be about 7 years old at that point...

I don't trust the N54 yet, so owning the car out of warranty isn't really an option.

Ultimately, I do want to jump into a new M3, so this car would be the perfect transition into one if I lease this.

Basically, I don't plan on keeping the car more than 3 years, so leasing makes sense for me on this one. Assuming the the residuals/money factors aren't terrible. I would expect residuals to be around 58-60% on these with a money factor at the standard 0.00230 to start...probably will get better closer to December 2011..Just guesses, but seems reasonable.

Because BMW sells a lot more M3 Coupes with Sat and idrive than they do with sunroofs. The M coupe audience really hasn't shown an interest in one, so BMW doesn't see a need to offer it.

yeah, as always its subjective. I personally dont like the tan interior, its too 'luxury' for me. Just opinion. I dunno, I see the 1M as a car thats gonna get tracked, tossed, flogged a bit. Thats dirty business. That tan interior is gorgeous, but would get beat up.

Sort of like wearing a tan camel-hair coat (and scarf) to football tailgate.

+ 1 million

if you simply have to have a sunroof, then get/keep a 135..

This car is an Enthusiast car... and meant to be a track day car.... Sure. originally. most will see street duty..
but like all M3s, many will eventually be track cars. No having to search for a non sunroof car... no having to
try and fill in the roof when the car becomes a race car.... hooray!
