Well, I wouldn't have put it so directly, but then again, some of these guys don't do subtle. This is a group for whom "enthusiast" seems to mean spending more money, mashing the accelerator and posting on message boards.

The 128 is a very good car; I'm tired of the 135 owners denigrating it.

Even after putting more than 30,000 miles on my 128i over the last 16 months, I still don't regret getting a 128i over a 135i. When I got my car, I was shopping for a new 135i. But then I saw how much less CPO 135i's were going for. Then I saw how much less than that CPO 128i's were going for. The accountant in me couldn't pass up the crazy deals on these cars. Sure, the 135i is faster, has bigger brakes, and has more standard features, but for what I paid for my CPO 128i back in November of 2010? Shoot, you couldn't even pick up a base model VW GTI for what I paid!! Besides, the 128i is plenty fast enough to get into trouble and have a blast in...just have to keep the tach needle north of about 3000 RPM when you're really going for it. In a few years, when you start to see CPO 1M's going for a more reasonable price, I'll pick one up and keep my 128i as my DD. Then I'll chime in on this thread and hate on the 135i owners for their "lowly" car choice

I agree. Had one as a loaner and it's plenty quick and the feel/handling are miles ahead of other cars.

I honestly wish they would consider a turbo 4 on this chassis.

I believe the next generation of this car will have the turbo 4 cylinder engine like the brand new 328i. I personally wanted the 6 cylinder, so I made sure to buy one while they are still available.

When car shopping I was looking for a sporty convertible manual. I looked at Audi, Mercedes, Genisis, Infiniti, mini copper (just for comparison )..etc. Once in a 1 series there was no question in my mind this was the car for me. Even after trying 4 different 3 series, the 1 series was just "it".

128 vs 135. I really couldn't justify the cost difference, being I paid $26,400 for a 2009 128i with ONLY 6,075 miles, cold weather package, convert, upgraded sound...I dont regret it at all.

I do sometimes regret not getting the 135i. But much like many other people here I couldn't pass up the numbers. I got my 09 with 13k for 21900 in october of 2010 when they were booking for 29000. Even still it is one of the best cars I have ever owned.

After reading the thread about carbon buildup on the 135s, I'm even happier about the fact I have a 128!

Yup. No turbo + no direct injection will be nice for those who plan on keeping their cars long-term.

wow, having seen some of the photos on carbon build up on top of the intake valves. That's not good. I wonder if BMW (among others) are doing anything to address the potential problems?

I'm not trying to start an argument on which car is better, 128i or 135i. Clearly everyone picked there car for different purposes. As for me, i went with a 135i, for performance.

I agree, the 135i owners talking down on 128i owners is immature, since it's still a BMW, we should all be respectful one another. But in a way, aren't you 128i owners doing the same thing as us 135i, and talking down on the 135i?

I've encountered multiple posts on this thread that a 128i owner stating that "they are glad they didn't choose the 135i because of HPFP," or "turbo engine's don't last as long as a N/A" or "carbon buildup".

This thread's purpose is for people who bought a 128i, but later down the road, actually wants 135i, not "I bought a 128i because the 135i has.....problems".

If your tired of the 135i owners talking down on the 128i, you should do the same and stop listing the problems on the 135i .

I don't think we're putting down the 135i - just recognizing that the engine has issues.

This is simply not true, read the originated post:
"So are all the 128i owners happy with their decision? No pangs of regret? If you could do it over again, new 128i or low mileage CPO 135i?"

Clearly the OP is opening the question to those the DON'T regret, as well as those that do, and I think it's an interesting question to ask from the perspective of 128i owners, a new 128i or CPO 135i.

So, you as a 135 owner feel compelled to step into this thread for what reason? This probably is the only thread where I as a 128 owner feel entirely welcome, since it seems that most of the rest of the forum is biased towards 135 owners.

And acknowledging the 135 has problems doesn't mean that I'm telling 128 owners not to buy a 135. But that should possibly be a consideration when looking at the two models.

I am tired of reading something like I did today where someone states that the first mistake is buying a 128 without providing any reasonable justification.

But anyway, happy driving in your 135, and I'm will happily drive my 128 as well.

Like i said before, i bought a 135i because of performance. If i wanted a fun little cruiser that i wasn't going to modify, i would go with the 128i. You obviously have your own purposes on why you chose the 128i over the 135i, and i respect that. Why are you getting so worked up on what i posted? So because i drive a 135i, i am not allowed to post in a 128i thread? Don't see the logic in that lol...

Obviously your reading comprehension skills need some work since I didn't attribute the remark about a 128 being a mistake to you.

And talking about someone getting worked over something when you keep replying to my posts with your rebuttals is pretty amusing.
