Pentosin is the OE DCT fluid for bmw dct. I did my DCT fluid change in dealership so they use genuine bmw DCT fluid which is bmw branded Pentosin and they have to order the fluid because not every dealers have it in stock(They claim it "lifetime"). I would like to stick with Pentosin, there's no reason to try other brands than OE in our DCT.

I think I would go with PENTOSIN since its OE. Never heard of RAVENOL.

You might check with The California Transmission Supply Company... they sell ZF fluid at a reasonable price for the ZF auto gear boxes.

another ZF place is... Eriksson Industries.

I used BMW OE Oil. No hiccups.

The first diy posted above is what I used when I did mine. I also replaced all the filters. The suction filter is easy as it just pops out. The pressure filter is a pain with the clamp seal.

I was also able to get away with cleaning my belly pan thoroughly and not messing the gasket up.

Only took an hour or so. I would recommend getting extra oil if you do switch the filters out. They allow more oil to drain out.

Do you put on a new plastic transmission fluid cover during your fluid change? The dealership found my transmission fluid cover has oil seepage/slow leaking so they put on new cover/gasket as well while doing the fluid change.

Anything visible in the filter that made it obvious it was a good idea to change it? Did you have to by any gaskets for the pressure filter cover?

I did not put a new cover, you can't buy the gasket separate from the cover. I found no cracks and had no previous leaks so I cleaned it thoroughly and has held up for the past 40k with no leaks.

They were white, a little gunky. The oil was still spotless and still looked new at 55k. However it was just easy daily driving, no track time. The filter comes with a new o-ring similar to engine oil filters.

Oh nice! Thanks brother.

So what did you use to clean the gasket and pan? Just a little dish soap and water? My pan was replaced probably 5k miles ago so I am assuming the gasket is still in good condition. I'm pretty sure the dealership reused the oil in the transmission though, so I'm thinking about servicing it.

Oil wash and finished with carburetor cleaner. I can't remember what brand carburetor cleaner I used. But you want the brand that dries completely via air. No oil residue leftover.

If I venture into the shop I'll tell you the brand. I use it all the time to clean the engine components up and when my OFHG was leaking.

How much did you end up using? I have the ECS kit with fluid / filters sitting in the garage, but I'm debating on grabbing another bottle or two if it ends up needing more than 5qts.

One other question on the process, I get the 2k rpms for a minute to pump the fluid through the lines, etc.. But then when you add the additional fluid, is this with the car on at idle in P, or with the car off? Curious to hear from someone who has done it already.

Good to know. You drop the pan and replace the filter too? How many quarts did you need? What steps did you follow?

Alcor, yes this is the fluid i used

houtan, i gave it to my mechanic,
i provided 12 bottles of the Motul DCTF and a DCT bottom filter
he gave me back about 3 bottles, so i am guessing around 9 liters went in
i didnt have time to follow the process, sorry

hi,
my my mechanic did a full fluid replacement, including the cooler lines and oil cooler
he said 9 bottles were used

i gave him 12 got 3 back, so unless he spilled 4 whole bottles on the floor, he used 9 liters.

i will check with him later this week to be sure

At What mileage is everyone doing the DCT fluids? I'm targeting 55-60k. It sounds like it could go further but my mantra has always been that maintenance is less than repair.
