with the wider tire you don't think the steering would be to heavy? What about tramlining? (not sure of spelling)

the response on the 205 might be marginally better but not enough to make me want to get rid of the a perfectly good set of 225's. My 225's do not tramline.

Hi Gill,

Is this a good setup?

Sport Edition KM11
and

205/50R17 Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D Blackwall

Looking to order tires fast! Just had our first snow storm and it is a bad idea trying to drive with the stock tires!!

Thanks for your help!

Sorry Chris, I missed your question in this thread. I did see your order come in and it's a fine set up for the winter. You'll be very happy with the performance.

Chris,
I have the same exact setup. Great wheel and tire. Awesome dry performance and great in the snow too.

Here are pics and video of how they perform. Driving footage is with traction control off.

225/40/18 Blizzak LM-25's or Dunlop 3D's on whichever 18" wheel you prefer would work outstanding.

Gill I bought the 18" Dunlap 3Ds from you and had them installed yesturday on the stock 18" rims. I had it installed at a local shop and I was expecting TPMS errors but none occurrd. Are the TPMS on the stock rims working properly with the new tires?

Thanks for the pics and vid! Couple of questions...

What is safest/best way to drive in snow? Should I turn off DSC and leave on DTC?

Also noticed the pics dont have center caps. Do the BMW center caps fit? Or did you just not use the ones that came with these rims?

Re5001,

Yes. The kind of tire used does not affect the sensors. The sensors are there to simply measure pressure.

no problem. I appreciate all the info you gave in this thread.

I would have rather spent $1300 on more "fun" goodies for my car but I had no choice!

Do I need to reset the TPMS since they got new tires or leave them as is?

Leave all systems on (default mode), if you get stuck in snow and need to rock the car or spin the tires hit the DTC button on the center dashboard to turn off the DTC this way you'll be able to use the engine power to get you out of the snow. Oh yeah drive slowly in snow and don't put yourself in a bad situation ie. a hill or something like that, because even with snows you could get stuck. The key work is KIM Kee it moving....and you won't get stuck.

You should not need to reset the TPMS. I swapped my tires with winter setup and never reset the TPMS and no lights came on in the cluster.

Love my Winter Setup, Thanks Gill!

225/45R-17 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22 RFTs on 17x8 Sport Edition F10 BDC Wheels. The black inside rims are perfect considering all the 135i brake dust!

They're excellent. Sadly, one of a few tire lines that Tire Rack doesn't carry -- Toyo being the other of note.

I've heard various reasons when TR doesn't carry either, usually relating to those companies' supply systems.

The Nokian Hakkapeliitta lineup of winter tires (non-studded R & RSi and studded 5 & 4) are simply amazing. The Finns do know winter tire technology.

I just put 225/40/18 dunlop 3Ds all around on the OEM 18" bmw rims. Seem to be working fine. Tire center made me pay an extra 10 bucks a tire for new "washers" etc for the TMPS...is that a rip off? Seemed sketchy but they said if i didn't replace the seals and washers they couldn't be resposible for any air leaks.

Gill...any thoughts on that?

It's a precautionary measure. I don't think it's a rip-off, overly cautious at most.
