They really need to move this race back to its earlier time slot...late PM tropical thunderstorms is not uncommon this time of the year.

You can practically set your watch by them. It should really be something like a noon starting time to actually get a race in.

Normally races starts 14:00 local time like any other European races (like Japan still set for 2pm local)....but many other track owners bend over for Bernie to change the race time in favor of European viewers.

Exactly, the 14:00 race start time has worked for the preceding years. The threat of a torrential downpour only comes into play (if any) by the time the race is winding down or has finished. The Malaysian GP organizers coined the term "the hottest F1 race" for a reason - because of the often intense tropical heat (well, this was before the desert races were introduced).

Also the 95%+ humidity in Malaysia makes the race condition as bad as desert races as drivers will sweat even worse than normal and need to consume more fluids.

Spoke to a friend who's there. She said the downpours have been rolling in like clockwork around 17:00 local time. The locals definitely are excited about seeing their home teams (Lotus & MB Petronas GP) out but there's still alot of Schuey fans out there.

Hamilton was pretty fast in practice yesterday. I'm gonna be super pissed if he gets pole.

Relax...getting pole doesn't mean a race win....
plus its Malaysia, we'll have the rain storm prediction and maybe the team will fit Hamilton with intermediates like Kimi last year with a bone-dry track....or Shumi will do it to himself this year....
