New N55 owner. Getting a little bit of weirdness.
Hello all. I just purchased a CPO 2012 135i this past weekend, and after getting some time to re-familiarize my self with the car(previously owned a 2008), I am noticing a couple of odd things. The main one is an occasional odd hesitation when I really give it some gas, followed by a sledgehammer-like burst of torque. The first time it happened, I thought it was me. Now that I have had a little more time in the car I know for sure it is not my imagination. Basically, the car just hesitates for a moment when I really punch it, doing almost nothing, them BANG! here comes the power. It's extremely sudden when it does kick in. My old N54 powered car never did that, and I am wondering if it is something to do with the N55's control system or could possibly indicate a problem. I had a slightly similar issue with an old 1.8T VW, and it turned out to be a small hole in one of the intercooler pipes that was messing with the air metering.
The other issue I noticed was that all of a sudden I starting getting a pretty clearly audible turbo spoiling noise today, when it had not been audible before. It's only audible under smaller throttle applications, and gets drowned out if you get into it a bit more. I'm pretty sure this was not audible earlier in the week, as I am very sensitive to the noises my cars make. Some would say obsessively sensitive. LOL. Any insight you guys can lend would be appreciated. |

Could be the tranny software if it's a DCT there is an update for it. I used to have the same problem with car lurching forward from a stop. Especially with the AC on but once I took it in for the update it was gone and car drives perfect now.

I guess I should have mentioned that it's a 6 speed manual. Forgot it was not in my sig yet or profile yet.

this is the 128i section. n52. You'll have better luck in the 135i section as it's much more frequently traveled.
no hate, just don't know the answers to your question!

I'll continue until this gets moved to the correct section.....
The "lag" you are feeling is what the car is designed to do with a software update that BMW did. Its not turbo lag related AT ALL. Something in the ECU/ECM delays the throttle by mere second. Only way to get rid of that.......give the car a proper tune. I drive a 6 spd '12 135i as well so I know of the "lag" you're talking about. The turbo spooling noise, maybe since its a single turbo you're able to hear it better at the lower speeds/RPMs. I don't pay attention as I'm always rocking out in my car to something on the radio or hearing the wifey blab away. |
