I guess it was inevitable
Just received new ignition coils for my N52 128. Delphi and Bosch are the 2 major brands. I bought Delphi.
Delphi HQ is in Troy Michigan Coils were "engineered" by Delphi in the UK Coils were made by Delphi in China Bah Humbug |

Lots of high end shit is made in China. Don't be ignorant.
Besides who do you think is winding your coil if it's not made in China, probably the same robot they use in China. Who is running the factory in any case? Western dudes who work for Delphi! |

Agree with Jim. The Chinese listen to what you say and don't try to second guess. You talk low price, they focus on price, the rest of the specs be damned.

I got curious and looked up ignition coils for my n52 on Rock Auto. They list coils from Bosch, Delphi, United Motor Products, Facet, NGK, Standard Motor Products, Hella and Beck/Arnley. That is order of price with Bosch the cheapest. That is in the standard OEM replacement category, there was a couple more in the economy category.
I will pay a little more for a U. S. made part but only if I am sure it is really U. S. made. I do that to favor my fellow countrymen, not because I am sure it is a better part. In this case, I doubt there are really that many places making ignition coils for BMWs. Rumor has it that many Chinese factories produce parts with multiple manufacturer labels. We do a little business in China in the company I work for. We built a factory together with my employer providing the technology and the Chinese partner doing the construction. They had a very aggressive schedule that they did not quite achieve. They also did some things wrong which had to be corrected. But they got it done and it works. I think their schedule adherence was better than we would have achieved and their quality was probably not much worse.
