help this weekend I was driving home from North carolina to Maryland for the weekend to see family. I got the service engine light around 200 miles into my trip. Being annoyed of the light I got off the highway to a gas station to see what was up. My RPMs seem as the like to hang when i rev then finally drop. At idle it would fluctuate from 500 to 800 then come back to a normal idle after the car settled. Car only has 37k miles on it. I don't think it's coils or plugs maybe a O2 sensor? The light went away after I parked the car on Thursday night and hasn't came on since. Today I felt as the car wanted to bring the light back on again going home today, it was showing the symptoms from the last time the light came on but I stopped to let the car cool off and get gas. I can't read any codes since the light isn't on anymore. My n52 is a 2009.

Get it checked out. Past and pending codes will still come up.

Codes are stored even if the light goes out. Take it somewhere and get it hooked up to a diagnostic scanner like Autologic and see exactly what's going on.

Code came back as p0015 okay now what, it says something about timing.

It's my vanos solenoid i believe .

What did you use to pull that code? If you get it hooked up to a proper diagnostic system it will give you much more detailed info as to what exact sensor is the issue, not just a generic P code.

I use Torque to read OBDII codes. You can do it while driving (if you have the OBD to Bluetooth plugged in). I also have an inexpensive reader.

The reason I'm saying use a shop with the fancy scanner is because I had similar symptoms as you and eventually got a similar code using Torque. I starting researching how to replace the cam position sensor because the P code was pushing me toward that being the issue. Using the Autologic scanner at my local indie shop they got a different type of code with detailed description saying it was the VANOS exhaust solenoid. Replaced that and it's been perfect ever since.

BMWs shouldn't be diagnosed with P codes. If you use the proper scan tool, there are more detailed codes that point to the exact problem.
