My fingers are crossed...
I am definitely hoping I am wrong and the dash replacement will go perfectly.

Well, one the pass side airbag area on the dash, I have also developed a vertical line of about 1 1/2 " on the left side, and a partial oval on the right side, of about 2 inches, which sometimes looks worse when the sun hits it at a certain angle. I am not about to have a new dash installed though, but this really sucks.

I wanted to have the dash repaired from the under side, similar to paintless dent removal. Everyone that I suggested said that if the airbag was touched incorrectly could most certainly be a safty hazard.

I have about a 8" line as well as the radial shaped depression seen in th OP, I just can't look at this any more!

Mine is going in on friday for a few things, and my indentation is on the list. I'll report back what they say.

I think we are all interested in what they say. I just noticed mine after several months. Not sure if it was there, or just started forming. Mine was in last week for a new window regulator, and I would have mentioned it then if I had noticed it. I am not gooing to take it back yet...will wait to hear more from some that are taking it in, but I sure would not want a whole new Dash.

I agree, my outline has not grown anymore, yet. I just dont want my dash ripped out for a new dash only to get the same outline plus with squeaks and rattles.

Going in Saturday to get this issue checked. I got the same vertical indentation as the OP's and a slight horizontal one growing. Still not sure if I should follow through w/ a replacement though, but then, this car creaks and rattles enough that what does it matter?

I have the same issue (3"x1" L shape) and when I go in to get my alarm programmed I will request that they fix this as well.

The only fix is a total DASH replacement.

Went in the dealer today and my SA ordered up the parts. Like others, I had to order the one with the storage tray; which is perfectly fine with me. I could use some more storage space in this tiny car.

Anyway, the parts were:

51-45-9-127-054 1x Storage Tray on I-P $87.83
51-45-9-158-350 1x Trim Panel Dashboar $634.83
51-45-9-127-055 1x Insert Mat, Storage $16.13
07-14-6-960-289 4x Sheet Metal Nut, SE $0.70
07-14-6-977-362 4x Fillister Head Self $3.03

I have some bad news regarding the dash replacement.

I have already replaced my dash about 2 months ago and my car is always garaged.
even on the 2nd Dash the problem started to show after about a week.

I requested bmw to look at it and they are going to replace the dash once again and
also replace whatever part might be causing the problem. They are sending some tech's from headoffice to investigate this problem. Surely there must be a problem with something pressing too hard against the dash on that particular spot ?

They are also replacing all the trim they "accidently" without telling me damaged when replacing the dash the 1st time.

I will keep everyone up to date regarding my dash experience.

What trim pieces did they end up damaging? I'd like to give my SA some heads up to being extra careful with those parts when they start working on mine.

I had some scratches on my radio and where they removed the trim above the cubby. They also scrathed the cover infront of the gearknob. Most of these scratches can be avoided if they use the proper tools when removing the parts.

The SA agreed with me that they were using other tools like screwdrivers to remove some of the parts !

Maybe this is an isolated case and yours would be fine

Good luck !

Well I dropped my car off this morning for the dash replacement. I was made to believe that all of the dashes will have the storage from now on out. This is a defect in the dash causing it to bulge and expose the airbag lines. I hope to hell they don't destroy the car doing it. I'll post when it's done!

Called today...the dash is installed. They are waiting on the compartment parts to come in tomorrow. I'm nervous about the whole thing. They didn't say if it went good or not. May be picking it up tomorrow late as I have an hour drive to get there. I will post when I get it. They gave me a white 09 328i to drive for the past three days...I've kind of enjoyed it.

I hope it all works out for you, and that it is a quality install.....make sure you check out all of your interior parts tomorrow, including door panels, seats, steering wheel, headliner, etc......and drive it over some bumps before you head home. If you notice anything, show them ASAP. Good luck and let us know.

I called today to see what they've done about my dash, and they told me "it is part of the design"! I said that was absurd, but they said that since the other models they have show the same thing, it must be by design. I called BMW Canada, but since I'm out of the country and dont have my VIN, they are unable to look into it.

I also had them look into my wind noise issue, but they claim the TSB does not apply to Canada. Again, since I didnt have my VIN, BMW Canada cant help yet.

Once I get things straight with BMWC I'll report back for any other Canadians with this issue.
