135i Test Report in Germany's Largest Car Magazine

Preliminary Alert:
Germany's most influential car enthusiast magazine, "Auto Motor und Sport" comes out every two weeks. The next edition appears at newsstands tomorrow (Wednesday) and will feature a driving report on the 135i. Stay tuned. Eventually it will likely be available on the Internet for those who read German.

Hopefully it wont just be a preview and give us some actual numbers! Please translate and post if you can. I'm not gonna sleep tonight. Thanks in advance!

Top Speed: 275 km/h (same as Cayman S)

I checked out the article, just over a page long. This was obviously a token rush job in order to make the deadline for being published in today's issue. The photo is of the car in the same Sedona Red color that we've seen hundreds of times already.

They make reference to the benchmark vehicle, the 2002, by pointing out that this car is only 13 cm longer. They make reference to the new benchmark, the 8-cylinder M3, by pointing out that, unlike the M3, the 135i is certainly no sports car, but merely a sporty sedan. They like the bi-turbo engine, ample trunk space, and precise variable steering, but aren't overwhelmed by rear seating accommodations. (But the likely cars they would want to compare the 135i to in a performance test, say Audi TT, or Nissan 350, or Cayman, would have even worse or non-existing seating.) Also, they're tacitly critical of the hefty weight, which they confirm to be 1485 kg (though this value includes a 90% full 53 liter gas tank, as I pointed out in a different thread).

In my view, the only new piece of information, which I hadn't read heretofore, is the top speed this car attains without the electronic limiter: 275 km/h. By paying a surcharge and taking part in a speed driving class, BMW will de-limit the car for customers. I'm sure it's no coincidence that this top speed is the same as that of the Cayman S.

2ercoupe, I've recently relocated here to Germany. How does one go about taking this high speed driving class? Thanks in advance and thanks for taking the time to translate and draft a report.

I don't know the details, but you have to pay extra, provide a signature, and actively participate. The BMW dealerships (BMW Niederlassung) would have the details.
