I'll be looking to see not only the performance of the stage 1 kit, but how/if it changes the operating parameters of the engine.
I'd really like to do this and was excited when I saw that BMW lowered the price. But the quote I'm getting for the stage 2 kit (with the hardware) is still going to be $2400. Appearently the kit does not include all the ducting needed for the extra cooling, so add another $600 to that $1200 sale price, along with new spark plugs. Not as great of a deal as I was hoping. I wanted to do the full kit becuase I thought the extra cooling would definately help, especially in AZ. I'd be worrying about how much extra heat may be generated with just the new software. Want to keep my baby for a while so don't want to do anything that accelerates the wear and tear on the engine too much. |

Can anyone attest to this "exhaust burble" and what exactly it is? I test drove a 650i Vert once and whenever I let off the gas it made like a subwoofer bass boom kind of sound with the exhuast, is that what they are referring to?

Count me as one of the labrats as I plan on getting this done next week. I have the Perforance Exhaust which makes a pronounced "burble" noise in first gear on cold starts that I didn't hear with the stock exhaust. I wonder if it's similar. Either way I'll be listening for a difference when I get the retrofit.

Again, it's overpriced for what it is but it's the only tune that BMW will stand behind, so there's your tradeoff.

I'm getting the version 2 installed for $1800 out the door. It was very confusing for a while dealing with the parts and service department of my dealer because they didn't have the BMW incentive prices available to them. Going with version 2 because I plan to keep the car for a while and like the added protection. I drive it like I stole it too...

I agree.
And worse, manual trans only gets a 17lb ft or extra torque? That sucks. Auto trans gets nearly double the additional torque. It's not like the MT or DCT couldn't handle such a modest increase in torque. 32lb ft would be a better sell, if all trans types got it. If they offered 32lb ft, constant, with the "over boost" to say, 250lb ft, then it would make it much more interesting. As it is it's only good for those who want a little extra oomph while retaining factory warranty. And that's good. Not worth $700 with install imo. Too little for too much. Other than no warranty worries, JB+ gives you more for less, and it's very easy to install. If this tune really does improve throttle response I'd like hear it. I don't know if we'll get real info there though. Most people will feel the added power and confuse it with "quicker" throttle response. If truly throttle response is fixed with this software, then I'd like to ask BMW to fix my stock engine, cause after my last software "update", my throttle response went downhill. They can keep the 20hp and 17lb ft, and just give me the better throttle response. And for the removed power exchange for throttle response, they can do my software for free. I've been asking and asking my dealer to fix it, but they say BMW doesn't have a fix, hell they don't even acknowledge a problem. Seems they might have a fix, and it'll cost me $700 to fix it. As head of the class you could get a bunch of dough (not as much as the lawyers, but still a big bunch) while the rest of the class get the usual $1.50 each. |

Based on dyno results for the 335is, I expect more than 20/17 from this tune. We'll see.
BMW says 320/332 for the 335is. Dyno says 293/340, at the wheels, which ought to work out to more like 340/400. Automobile Mag

The tune won't have overboost, so I'm thinking it will be a little less

You're right, but I couldn't say how much less. Even with the overboost, they're advertising it as something like 370, and it's coming in closer to 400. So, they're significantly understating their numbers. I suspect this tune will add more than 20/17 and that will be on top of already conservative numbers. In the end, I expect a decent value for the money, not what some on here are complaining about.

I'm still confused by the MT vs AT torque numbers. I wonder if the AT ends up with more torque, or just starts with less for some reason. If it ends up with more, I am curious if $50 wouldn't get the tech to give me the AT flash, assuming it is possible.

Is it possible they sandbagging the MT crowd to get the AT crowd more interested in the tune? If you have any success getting the AT tune for your car worked out please let me/us know.
