Strange idle....

It's happened a couple of times now, I'll be sitting at a stoplight and the rpms will drop really low for 5-10 seconds and then come back up and then do it again. Maybe the start of HPFP issues? But no long start or anything...yet. Its going into the dealer on monday but what do you guys think it could be?

Nope. It just bogs down and runs rough and then does it again and then acts like it never happened.

5 to 10 seconds drop is indeed worrying , i have some fluctuations at idle sometimes but not that long and it does not drop that low either .

are you on a tune?

Are there any patterns? Does it only do it when it's engine is cold or hot? When the weather is hot or cold?

Mine has been doing that (albeit not that long). My cousin just messaged me today and said his e92 does it as well. Mine happens long enough to get your attention but not 5-10 seconds. I doubt the car could stay running at that low of an rpm for that long anyway.

Mine has been doing it too recently, stalled on me twice in 2 months. I reckon its my spark plugs. Going to check the car in next week then I will see what they come back with.

Same issue but its only ever so briefly and usually before its gotten a chance to warm up. I'm on Cobb Stage 1 Aggressive.

No tune. It happens, if I'm remembering correctly, when the engine is HOT just below the 250 line. And ok, maybe its not as long as Im saying (5-10) but it feels like it because time slows and all of my attention turns to it. Maybe 3-5 secs is more realistic.

My 08 does that as well on the PPK, I had the plugs changed and it did not stop the idle fluctuations.

I just went out and after driving a bit, temp was maybe 200 or so, at a stoplight it dropped to less than 500 rpms and jumped around down there and then popped back up and ran fine like nothing happened. It was on the verge of stalling.

Yea could be the HPFP or injectors too. Have you had any HPFP changed or injectors yet?

I'm the second owner but since I've had it, no. I'm going to take it in and get the recall done and have them check the injectors.

I believe as part of the recall they update SW and injectors too. Depending on what has already been done to the car, that should take care of it!

It wouldn't have anything to do with the vacuum hose on the exhaust would it?

I have this for my car as well. My fuel pump has been replaced since the car was released from the factory too.

I'm interested to see what the service department at Hendrick BMW will come up with for an explanation.

This just started happening to me too, but I have never stalled. It's like the AC compressor is turning on and off except climate control is totally off. My plugs were replaced no more than 2k miles ago and I just cleaned the intake valves a couple weeks ago. I scanned for codes last week and didn't have any. I will check again today.
