Euro uses a new lower housing with more volume, has a conical filter, and lets you change the filter by only removing the top.

BMWP looks prettier with a carbon fiber partial top, reuses part of the stock lower housing with a K&N filter that sandwiches between the two halves, and features a noise-enhancing doodad that directs intake noise toward your noggin (sort of).

Unfortunately almost all BMWP parts for the 1er are gone.

No, not for sale!

I doubt there's any performance advantage to the Euro air box, it's just a little easier to change the filter.

The only real advantage to the PE, whether Euro or US, is the intake plenum, which is made by Cooper who appear to have spent more time on CFD modeling, and the bigger outlet the plenum has leading into the air box. This is where any gains come from.

So you're saying that we need intake scoops to increase the air going into the plenum to take advantage of this.

I agree, at least with the E82 design. I would imagine there's a high pressure zone directly in front of the radiator which feeds the intake. Scoops probably interrupt that and might even restrict airflow.

I've replace the foam seal on the carbon fiber intake plenum cover twice because of that high pressure zone

just pretty engine bay candy for a cone filter in the US (instead of the large flat one you get stock)

I got a nice cheaper non CF euro box (just the box) for 30 USD. got the filter new myself and spent 10 minutes swapping everything out.

YMMV

Where'd you manage to score a Euro box for $30 from?

I'm just taking a guess but he could've used German eBay. Check out this link - I got mine for like $100 shipped from the fatherland if I remember correctly.

I use geo-ship which is a global eBay search engine. just type in the p/n and you'll find some good ones.. I got lucky with mine.
