Installed Curt 11184 Hitch on 2011 Vert
I installed the Curt 11184 Hitch this morning on my 2011 Vert. I must say I am very pleased. The fit was perfect. The install went very well. The two top bolts were a little difficult to tighten so you will need a flexible 19mm socket to get there but all in all very easy to do. The Curt instructions were perfect and very clear and to cut out the plastic cover was well detailed and accurate as can be.
Bike rack to come!!! Some photos for those interested. |

Is that a 1-1/4" receiver? How much plastic did you have to cut away? And how much does the hitch weigh?

Fyi if you didn't trim the muffler hanger its going to hit the hitch. Its not in their instructions but trust me it will interfere. I have this hitch on my car for my bike rack and love it btw.

You will. When I installed mine I could fit my finger in between the hanger and the cross bar when the car was cold. In the summer when the car was hot it would literally be resting on it. I trimmed it a small amount and then it hit whenever I hit a bump so I had to trim it again.

I have the cheap double thule. I posted some pics here http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=718585
I don't recommend it as it damaged the finish on my fuel. They make a slightly more expensive one that grips the front wheel which is better. It is both more sturdy and holds the bikes more securely. I ride a mountain bike with an angled top tube and the over the top hold down doesn't work very well. |

I really can't understand why American hitch companies won't get off of their butts and make hitches like the German companies.. On my 118i when I remove the hitch Ball neck you can't even tell I have the thing installed. I am definately installing a Westfalia Hitch on my 335i before it leaves Germany.

Finally used my 128 to tow something. I picked up this Vespa for $700. It was a 250 mile round trip. Pulled like a dream. Mileage was 23 mpg, down 4 mpg from empty trailer, with was down 2 mpg from no trailer. The lighting worked just fine.
