135i back in bizzzz mufukaz

After Chapman BMW quoted me almost $9k to fix my car, I began saving some money away each month in order to eventually fix my car.

Later on, after discussing the work that needed to be done on this forum, I knew it was not going to be BMW dealer to fix my car and so I got a quote from another local shop that had worked on my car previously.

The manager/owner started to explain the work that needed to be done and potential issues I may face soon after car would be fixed, indicating that there was a 10% that I could have subsequent problems after car was fixed. This was a red flag obviously.

Also, this shop wanted $4500 for parts and labor or in alternative was willing to buy my car from me for $2900. Second red flag..

It was during that conversation where I realized I was on the verge of being robbed. Guy told me that I was being quoted on a job that may or may not be needed to ensure the car was safe to drive, but he would have to do only if the car made a noise after the work was done!!!?????

I asked him a few more details about what the job was, and he immediately got defensive and stated that all the work they do at their shop is justified and yada yada yada...Red flag #3

I responded with confusion bc I was not questioning the integrity of their shop but bc I am not well informed on mechanics or motors and simply wanted clarification. The convo ended with him letting me know that one of his mechanics was gonna call me and let me know what else needed to be done... last and final red flag #4....

After this, I reached out to this forum again and also spoke with peeps on Instagram.

After a few phone calls and new acquaintances, I am happy to report that after 5 months, my car is being revived by a mechanic who not only explained in detail what needed to be done but also is providing the service at a reasonable price.

Karma is a motherf'r! The BMW dealer in addition to POS shop of thieves at the other store deserve to be burned for their recommendations and quotes.

Yeah really, you can't say it was $9k or $4500 of work and not explain what is being done to the car. What did you end up paying and did the new shop actually fix the problem?

This forum is generally very good. I've learned a lot and saved a ton of money by reading here.

Did those two quotes include now blinker fluid and muffler bearings? I've read that if you do one without the other there will be problems.

Thanks for the informative and detailed post.

I upgrade to the M3 muffler bearings without changing the blinker fluid. No problems so far. I guess I better go check it again.

Your scribbling is about as unintelligable as your typing. You got a $4,178 quote for motor work. Was that done for less than $1,250 parts and labor?

Didyou replace the front brakes and rotors? What brand parts did you use? How do the pads you bought compare to Textar?

So item #2 on your list was free OP? That's the Front Crank Seal, where you had a belt come in and get shredded? It's not a minor job I would expect someone to throw in for free.

Also, this was most likely caused by a leaking OFHG, did that get resolved as well?

How the fuck does the belt "enter" through the front main seal?

If the belt really got shredded and pulled in via the seal (not to uncommon from what I've read), could you still have pieces of belt material inside the engine ? For $1,250 I'd be surprised if the engine got torn down far enough to find out. If I'm wrong keep that shop happy.

This could be a fatal event for you engine if any belt material gets to the wrong place.

Jesus, $1k for front pads and rotors? I have never attempted getting a non-warranty quote from any dealer, maybe that's normal. But wow that's a lot for a relatively basic job.

Yeah that belt in the engine explains a lot of these numbers. Best of luck OP, hope your shop takes care of you.

Hope the shop you ended up with does the job right. That is not a minor repair.

Each rotor for my 128 lists for $110
Front pads list on Real OEM for $132
Spring clips on Real OEM $18
Sensor on Real OEM $28
Thats $288 in parts
Guessing the book says three hours labor at 200 is $600
Total is $888

There is probably more like hazardous materials disposal fee, shop rag fee, diaper cleaning fee, etc.

A frien dof mine who doesn't like to get his hands dirty, and can clean a clean car better than anyone traded in his wife's Acura a few years ago because he didn't feel like dropping 2 grand on brakes and 1 grand on tires the dealer quoted. the 3 grand was his down payment. He felt like he beat the man.

So that's how you got the money to pay for the repairs. It all makes sense now.

No bull, thanks for the offer but your faux cocktail weenie would leave me wanting a real piece of meat, or at a minimum rocky mountain oysters. Plus I would want it with sauce which I am sure you are unable to provide.
