Question Turbo Lab of America- N54 upgrade?

Hey guys,

Who has experience with the turbo lab of America turbo upgrade? Sounds like a full rebuild, larger compressor wheel, and drop in 9 blade turbine wheel... For $1050.

Considering my turbo's are rattling and stock ones cost more than these upgrade units, I feel like it's a good deal. Opinions?

Look up the address on google map street view. There's nothing but some abandoned buildings there. Guess I like a business to look like a business.

It's merely implicit, but I think that all of their pricing is for rebuilds with your cores. They just use different parts to accommodate the specs on other manufacturer's turbos.

You are correct that it's $1050 + a core charge ($350), but he was quick to reply to my email and they do have a set in stock, ready to ship. Considering they are way cheaper (think MMP turbos only have 90 day warranty) and come with a 24 month warranty, it sounds like a great deal!

Has anyone actually run these turbos on a N54? Or I could just say screw it and buy VTT GC lite, but they cost 4x more after having to buy inlets, outlets, ect.

Reviews on this company are so 50:50

I think it may be a shot in the dark if you pursue it, but 24 months doesn't lie.

Or does it...

"No liability will be accepted if the turbocharger boost setting is outside the figures recommended by the Seller or the original vehicle manufacturer. The boost setting must always be checked after fitment to comply with this warranty."

Yea that's a little odd, considering they are upgraded to make more boost / power... Not sure how they could tell if you were running more than factory boost, but id hate to have an issue.

90 day? lol Not even close. MMP has the standard one year warranty and adds a second year if you purchase the WPC treatment option; which you'd be stupid not to with or without the added year warranty. Where'd you come up with 90 days?

To be honest, idk where I got that from. I do recall seeing 90 day warranty somewhere, but searching their website (along with RB's, Pure, and VTT) they all have a standard 1 year warranty.

Do you have MMP's, how are they?

I currently do not, but that is the plan once he releases the cast option.

I got both of mine rebuilt from them and have had no issues since replacing them myself. My front turbo ingested something and I was worried about the inside of the housing being damaged so I sent them off to get the $1050 service, rebuild, billet wheel and compressor housing machining. They came back in great shape and well packaged. Car runs well and pulls like a freight train. Now I am needing new injectors so am back to the stock boost levels. The only issue I had was with USPS losing one of my turbos in the shipment. That was a PITA to get sorted. The guys where always quick to answer my emails and provided some support for the shipping fiasco. Wouldn't hesitate to send another turbo or two off to them if needed to. (Maybe the VF off of my WRX if I can't sell that car...)

Thanks for the information, but I ended up buying VTT GC lite turbos, as I couldn't find any reviews of the Turbo Lab upgraded units.

Haha, no I really haven't. I did find a 3rd party review of the normal GC with someone running just 93 pump gas, with good results... Ill try and find the review again and post it.

After looking over turbo labs website, watching there youtube videos, and not finding any reviews, I thought it would be smart to stay with a well known company (like Pure, VTT, or RB). The reason I went with VTT GC lites is the price point and easier to install, being a 2 piece design.

Did you get around to installing these? I'm debating having them repair/upgrade mine as well.

I've had one good experience with Turbo Labs of America.

On my previous platform, a friend left a paper towel (you know the paper towel in the intake mod) and ran the motor; he destroyed the turbo (GT3071). They replaced it with a HTA3076 and rebuilt everything. I think he has about 50k on that turbo now no problem.

Anyway you slice it you're taking a risk with any aftermarket turbo. I would probably go with them given the chance.

Can you clarify a bit: did you get around to installing the TurboLabofAmerica rebuilt units, or are you waiting to do that since your coolant line burst?
