Another 1 series on One Take

Inflation is coming:

I don't think the prices on these cars really drops any further than it has. The secret is out.

Yeah I saw that this morning.

People still have yet to realize what the actual weight difference between the 1 and a 3 series is. I get 137 lb is not a negligible amount, but it's also not the biggest difference ever.

Yeah. I had a discussion with a Toyota salesman about the 1 series. He happens to own a N54 135i. When chatting, he was pleasantly surprised to hear me say the 1 series is a fat pig for what it is. He agrees. Doesn't make me like my car any less. Just an acknowledgement that our cars are no light weights.

You could turn that in to a positive, glass half full kind of thing by saying 'for their size, our cars are built like tanks.'

I found out first hand when I hit Bambi or rather her mother with my 1. Was surprised there wasn't more damage due to the speed I was traveling at the time and how far the body went flying down the road.

That's all? Wild. I always assumed it was a few hundred pounds. I always saw quarter mile times for the 335 lagging behind by four or five tenths and assumed they were 3XXlbs heavier.

It also has the worst power to weight ratio.

To be fair, 3,300 lbs is pretty light these days.

That Toyota everyone loves to hate is 3300lbs, too...

Unfortunately, you're right. My 2019 C-HR is 3300 lbs. And it's painful driving that car in any mode other than economy for fuel mileage with the monstrous 144HP 139Ft Lb of tree stump pulling power. When I drive my 135i after a long hiatus, it's almost a shock to my system.

Thanks for the heads-up on the video. And I will say, maybe an unpopular take, but the weight is one of the things that sold me on the 1er when recently looking at multiple different vehicles. Funny enough (to the poster above) the C7 Audi A6 w/ 3.0l engine was on my short list (tuning capacity) as was the w204 C63 sedan since in TX we have long flat highways everywhere you go, and lightweight sports cars get old really fast on our rough long roads (noise, ride, groove-tracking, etc etc). But I just wasn't ready to get something that large... So the 1er is like the perfect mix. 👍🏽

This is true. One of the things I love about my truck is the heft. Makes everything smooth. The wife is about to ditch her Forester for a Pilot/Ascent and the ride quality difference is substatial thanks to the size and weight difference.

Depending on what you read, the N55 is somewhere between 45lbs-60lbs lighter than the N54 135i, which isn't too bad, considering the new Supra is 3397lbs.
