Radio Issue?

I've had my car in a garage for the winter, and I have it run for about 10 mins every Tuesday. Today when I got inside it, I heard loud static noise from the back speakers (the type of noise that ususally occurs when a cell phone is about to ring)

I took my cell and put it in my winter car, went back inside my bmw, and the noise was still there. I tried turning the volume all the way down, turning the radio off, even turning the car off and locking the doors, but the noise was just as loud and was not going away. After about 5 mins of this, the radio suddenly turned completely off, back on again and the noise was gone.

HMMMM?

Have you had the software update performed on your car? If not bring it in. The software was updated on my car in November to address occasional non-working audio system. No problems since, plus my occasional long crank times are gone and the oil temperature now runs 10-15 degrees cooler.

Haven't had a chance yet, but i heard about the software update. I will be putting the car back on the road, once the temperatures are more favourable, and I'll bring it in then.

Happened to me a couple weeks ago. Nobody seemed to have a good answer for it:

That happened to me once 1 1/2 years ago the day after I took delivery of the car. The noise went away on its own after about 5 min. It has never happened again...thankfully!

1st. STOP running your car for 10mins, you are washing the piston rings with fuel..not good.
2nd try to take the car for a drive and FULLY warm it up.
3ed. Stop starting the car and get a Battery tender/slow charger to keep the battery fully charged.<thats all you need at the end of the day>
5th. add some staybilt(sp) fuel additive to keep the fuel fresh...etc.

6th, sorry can't help with your radio issues....

Called the dealership today, and asked about the software upgrade. They told me they weren't aware of one for the 1 series, but there was one for the 3 series. I told them I heard from quite a few people that there is one for the 1 series and it specifically fixes some radio problems.....the guy goes to me,

"What, you read it online? They talk about all kinds of things online"

Tell your dealer to look-up SIB 651609 and reprogram your car with ISTA/P
6512690200. These came from my service receipt from November 12, 2009. I can not believe how some dealers mistreat their customers. I feel very lucky to have a great dealership, BMW of West Springfield (MA) with a great service department and service advisors.

It used to run around 240 F all the time now it is 225 to 230 max. No one I have contacted can explain it.

No software update for me. Antenna module was the culprit. But why wouldn't they just update to the newer software anyway if I asked them?

Maybe it is a U.S./Canada issue. I believe that if you ask for the software up-date in the U.S., they will do it.

After putting in the antenna control module, the SA said they had to update the software. Is there only one software update, or is it specific to what issues were with the car?

If it's an overall update, then I guess i'm up to date. Is there any way to check which version I'm running? I don't have iDrive.

I can not say for sure, but I think there is only 1 update for the 135i in the U.S. I have not been able to get the update version from anyone, but I sure am glad I got it. My car was great before (except for the audio and crank times), and now it is better. Once again, I have a great dealer, BMW of West Springfield MA.
