As for the E93

We should see it before year end, but not shure if the US will wait till Spring to release it

I'm pretty sure people buying hardtop convertibles take storage capacity into consideration, it's unlikely that they buy it blindly, and afterwards say "oh shit, the hardtop GOES INTO the trunk?? I didn't know that"

and it doesn't nec. mean added weight, there are so many light materials and weight-saving strategies available in the automotive world, a hard top does not necessarily translate into more weight.

For people whose only car is going to be a convertible the only time they are going to want to drop the top (weekends away, going to the golf course, even coming home from the grocery store on a nice day) they can’t because there is something in the trunk.

If you think you want a folding hard top, just save some money and get a coupe (hell, if you are thinking about a 335 drop top just get a hard top M3 for similar money)

sorry but i dont agree with you. i think its a great idea because when the top is up it will feel like a regular hardtop which is good for people who live in cold climates. i would definitely consider this car for my next purchase in 4 years.

The best estimates are that the E-93 will debut in September 2006 (possibly the Paris Auto Show), and start of production will be in the early spring of 2007. This is what the dealers are hearing from the BMW U.S. Headquarters. The car is definitely targeted to be in full sales mode for the 2007 summer and will be marketed as a 2007 model.

I don't get it. I'm no way saying the E93 hardtop is not coming out. I definitely don't know those kinds of things.

I just have never seen any of these spyshots everyone is talking about. The only one i've seen is the grey coupe with the hood and drivers side door open.

I see the seat belt retention system, minus back seats, and just lines on the roof. Is this all we have so far. I'm definitely convinced. I just want more.

I think the people interested in buying one will will make that sacrifice. Just like people who buy Z4s, etc.

Man I hate BMW they make you want to own them all from what I read you may be able to open the roof like a sunroof close it and fold down the hard top jesus...I know benz is going holy smokes and Toylexus must be going uh oh..we got caught sleeping but I'll give credit, I understand it was VW that might have helped BMW develop this system....hmmmm

metal generally is going to weigh more than canvas, even light metals.

when the top's up the weight is carried up high too, works against you in cornering. Weight and positioning is one of the reasons the new M6 has a carbon fiber roof, and it's the same reason 996 GT3 can't be had with a sunroof.

Keep in mind too that folding hardtops take about twice as long to raise or lower than a soft top. Some makes even let you raise or lower a softtop at 30 MPH, can't to that with a hardtop!

Actually, I think it's the opposite. You can lower a hardtop at low speeds. The soft top has to be started up or down at essentially a standstill. I start rolling when the process is almost done. I'd hate to see what happens to a soft top when it's staight up and you're going 25 mph!!

which hardtops can you operate while in motion?

you can operate the top on a new mustang while in motion (slowly), and you can operate the tops on porsches up to 30 MPH. up or down too!
