Pirelli P ZERO Run Flat (Narrow?)
Hey everyone,
Ordered and recieved two 245/35R18 Pirelli PZero Run Flats for my 128 to replace the standard Bridgestone Potenza's. They appear to be almost an inch narrower. Can anyone validate that these run this narrow? Sure I wasn't punked Lol... Pics attached...

Wow, that is a shocking difference!
I don't have an answer for you, but you could check the Pirelli and Bridgestone websites for the exact dimensions of those tires: they usually list Section Width and often Tread Width, as well. |

According to Tire Rack, the Zeros tread width run 8.6 and the Potenza's run 8.7 and the section width is the same at 9.8
However, after physically measuring them, the Zeros are dead on and the Potenza's run wide, the tread measured 9.6 with a section width of 10.0!!

I'd try and measure both even if it's just with a ruler (hold it vertically) and something flat to measure horizontally. Then get hold of Tire Rack.
I'm sure they'll say it's normal but if it turns out the -new- tire is vastly different than what they say on their site, perhaps they'll offer to do something for you (swap them out for more of the same of what you had or something). If it's the old ones measuring over-sized then I'm sure they'll not do anything at all. That's a pretty big difference, it may not actually matter but I'd be disappointed for sure! |

Yeah, the Potenza's measure wide, so if the Zeros look horrible on the rear, I'll use them on the front instead and order the Potenza's for the rear. That should throw everyone off... 245's on the front for a "square" setup that's obviously NOT!

I have the PZeros on my wife's car. Worlds better than the Potenzas that came off of it. Crappy huge pictures, but should give you an idea of the look.

Wow! They actually don't look too bad. A little stretch from the Potenzas, Are they staggered? 215-245?
Thanks

Ok, got the 215's in... and they almost look like the same width as the 245s! Something still doesn't look right. Were yours that close?

I sent Tire Rack these photos, and I got the expected corporate answer - "We cannot really see anything in these photos. You really cannot compare tires without installing on wheels. The sizes you ordered are the correct fitment for your car."

Yep, goes to show that the problem with big corporations, is that you can make/sell a product out of specs, and no one can do anything about it... especially those you are making the product for and selling it to... the customer...

Hey smokehouse--
did you end up installing those P Zeros? I just had them put on my 135i yesterday and can attest to the fact that they definitely look narrow on the rim. The bridgestone's I had on before went to the edge of the rim, but the p zeros do not on the rear. Debating if i'm going to complain to the tire shop or not.... Anyone else had this issue? |

That's interesting....
I have some pictures here and I'm wondering if you think I should go back to the place the sold/installed the tires. To me, the rears look real bad, and i'm not sure if it's solely that the tires are narrow, or if it's that combined with a bad installation. I used a mobile installation company that came highly recommended, but the installer who came out kept talking about how hard runflats are to put on. I don't know much about tire installation, but would a more experienced installer have an easier time getting the rubber to the edge of the rim?? Here are some pics, including a closeup of the rear. The front looks good, the back looks (to me) quite bad. I should try to have the company address this, right?? thanks for any help! |

My tires look about the same, but, yes, your rears look like they may not be going to the edge, but it's hard to tell in the pics. I have the 261's and they are mounted correctly, they just look stretched. May want to have a tire shop look at them to ensure they are mounted correctly.
