I have plans for aftmkt head unit as well, a single DIN with a 4" nav screen. Plan on using it for a small-scale nav, reverse cam and playing my burnt DVD discs.... once you learn how much you can get on a dvd, you can't get by with less. The nav is off of an internal HD so it doesn't take up the disc drive and it has an add'l 24GB of space for your own music if you wish to upload to it. It also has an available Bluetooth phone add-on box.
I have a feeling that the easiest scenario will be to bypass the stock harness, run the rca's to the new amp and tie the stock spkr wires to that amp; unless there's an adapter of some sort. I have zero experience with BMW audio systems so I'm unsure of what's out there. |

Nice! definitely keep us posted. Do you know where you're mounting the sub, or are you just throwing it in the trunk?

nice. please let us know how your installing the head unit. are you bypassing the oem system altogether or is there a harness/module that will tie into the bmw system? also, is the oem menu/info tied into the oem unit, if so, how are you getting around that? the head unit is my biggest concern as I haven't been able to find anyone locally that knows anything about the newer bmw systems.

If you install an aftermarket head unit, it will be impossible to update the vehicle's software. The RAD2 (CCC for nav/iDrive) is the master controller for the MOST bus. If the MOST bus is down, none of the components on it will be seen by Progman. If a single module on the car is missing or not recognized, NOTHING will be updated.

alpinedb, Would you do us a favor and measure the mounting depth for the subs underneath the seats? I'm interested to know what I can work with down there. Much appreciated. |

I would be interested to see this. Ive read through teh post and it looks like there isnt a good way to run aftermarket sub/amp off of some of the speaker level outputs in teh 135i? I have a 1000/1 and 2x 12w6's Id like to use back there. (keeping the factory HU)
Any thoughts or did it miss that in a previous post? |

I definately adding a sub to mine when I get it, I would love to see your setup. I just had a 10" kicker solo baric in my 330, not enough to shake any windows, but great for a nice full sound, and barely used up any trunk space at all. Im probably going to do the same in the 135. Maybe a 12 if it would fit in a standard box. I havent taken any measurements yet.
