I am getting ready to do another series of overlays for sale on Ebay in a few weeks.
They will be the same M style with a slight change. I will no longer be offering the "M" logo, but there will be other options. N54, N55, 135i, 135is.

I've decided to do these overlays in small batches of less than 20, and once a batch is complete, i will not repeat the same design again. So the next ebay batch will be the last ones to copy the M style.

How about "'N55 135i " with no "S" for those of us who are non "S".

It will just be a choice one of the four logos for the next batch.

It's be nice if you can imitate the 335is gauges but with the 135is text.

Still, I'd prefer it more if you can imitate the tii concept gauges. Well, the only thing that's different with the tii gauges is the white tach gauge (with a few details) and the red, 1M needles.

Another cool idea would be a stock looking face but with BMW Performance (on the tach) in yellowish clear font, similar to the BMW Perf door sills. That would look amazing with white LED's...not so sure how it would look with the stock amber lights.

EDIT: It'd be better if you can have the inner speed rating scale also illuminated. For example, the inner km/h scale in the mph/US version also light up. In your test sample, it didn't look like they lit up.

I want to vouch for the product. Looks great. Install is also super easy. So easy I could almost decide to change gauges by season If I wasn't worried about popping off the needles breaking them somehow.

Can you verify the speeds are accurate.

How about changing the fuel gauge to read PSI for those of us that have repurposed it as a boost gauge?

Funny you would ask. I was worried about the same. Yesterday I downloaded a GPS speed app for my phone and did some runs. City only so I never got above 40mph, but GPS and speedo were tracking essentially the same speed. Speedo always reads 2-3mph less than GPS. My understanding is that this is stock BMW behavior to save us from ourselves.

So the aftermarket gauges did are the same as stock.

That is an easy change. If you end up buying one, let me know and i will do it for you.
I think the JB4 gauge range is 1-20 psi, is that right?

Thanks for the posivite reviews. I've posted a new listing on ebay.

Does anyone know if the M3 gauge needles are the same size as the 135i needles? I'm looking to get the red needles to replace mine when my gauge insert comes.

http://www.bimmian.com/M-Style-Red-N...r-E93-3-Series

UPDATE: I called a guy I deal with for parts and BMW does not sell the gauge needles separately. Was going to see if I could buy 1 Series M needles. Have to buy the whole gauge cluster as a unit to avoid tampering with mileage, etc. Still looking.

The larger needles looks like its the right size, but the small M3 needle is bigger than the small 1 series needle. You may be able to file the end down to make it fit.

Heres a shot of the overlays as they arrived(cell phone pic sorry). These are the metric 135i ones..

Here they are in the cluster. This is from after the first try placing the needles.Took about three attempts to get the needles in a position so that they were accurate, what can I say, I'm super super picky. Not overly hard to do. I used a fork and an old thick wedding invite envelope cut to protect the overlays.

mccandles was a pleasure to deal with. Shipped promptly and they look good.

I'm now considering changing the LED's to white and finding some red 1m needles, if anyone knows of a source for the m needles... Perhaps a dealer p/n ? The bimmian ones don't look all that great quality wise in my opinion.

Again, they look great in the daylight installed in the car, I'm just not sure I like the orange colouring at night now.

Man I've been looking everywhere for those needles. I called my buddy at the BMW dealership. He said the entire cluster is shipped as a single part number so the needles can not be had separately. If you find any for sale please let us know. So far I've been unsuccessful.

Good review! Can you give an estimate on install time? I'm thinking about getting a set of these possibly and since the 1 is my only car, I can't have it down for too long

Edit: didn't mean to post pictures

I'm sure there is a supplier that produces them FOR bmw.. or someone who can reproduce them. As they're similar to the 3 series needles, I'm sure there is a market for them. I'll keep digging.

It took about 5 mins to remove the cluster (2 torx screws and one wire plug), another 5 mins to get the front and back cover apart and pop the needles off. You don't need to remove the rear cover, but I did anyways as thats what was in the DIY video. And about the same to reinstall, but like I said, I tried about 3 times to get the needles correct by quickly plugging it back in to the dash harness and starting the car to confirm positions. All in, with my pickiness, under an hour.

I plugged the cluster into the dash without the clear cover on. That way i can adjust the needles while the car is running. Just push them on lightly until you get it right, then push them down the rest of the way.

Once adjusted you can then unplug the cluster, install the clear cover, and put them back in.

Alright, awesome. I plan on doing a white LED swap and I have an idea of what I want for the cluster. @mccandless, If I were to send you a drawing/photoshop image of what I want would you be able to make that?
