search is your friend
obviously you need the xenon headlights you have to bridge the ground and bridge the shutter for high beams then you have to code your frm to eliminate the flicker When I bought my 128i it had some juck replacement and i had a a set of bi-xenons that was left over from my donor car. its time consuming getting the bumper off and doing the install. the wiring is a 15 minute job and the coding is 5 minutes if you have a good coding monkey first link http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=526378 second link http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28035 Last edited by gixracer; 12-28-2016 at 06:40 PM.. |

alright did a TON of reading and still have a few questions
i noticed a lot of people recommend the euro spec lights because they are not bi-xenons, will the same diy work for the us spec bi-xenons? i have also seen a lot of people saying that they are getting error messages without a new footwell module and some that have simply just done the wiring splicing mod (connecting the 5 and 6 pins and then adding the ground pin to 2) and they have been okay, can anyone confirm which is true? as of right now i am HOPING that aside from the hardware installation i will just have to connect 5 and 6 and then add pin 2 for ground and call it a day on the us spec lights, can anyone confirm if this will work? thanks

You need a new or used footwell module labelled "FRM3 LED XE", this one is specific for xenons. I would recommend you retrofit standard bi-xenons not the adaptive ones because that requires even more wiring. If you choose to install adaptive bi-xenons you will need a different footwell module labelled "FRM3 LED XE AHL" In terms of wiring i recommend you buy the Xenon retrofit harness, its only like $60 and leads to a much cleaner install. I did this my self ages ago on my first 1 series and my day time running lights didnt work after only bridging those pins and adding the extra ground. This is because the wiring physically changes when you add the new footwell module. Also not you need to have LED tail lights (lci or non lci it doesnt matter) because again the wiring is different. |

It is possible to do the retrofit without it, though. You can re-use some of the halogen wires, and add some new ones. http://www.babybmw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=90909 Halogen pre-facelift coupes and verts use LED taillights; LCI LEDs are then plug&play. LCI E82/88 is a different story.

ah okay thank you for explaining so to sum it up you need.. -headlights -rewire/add ground -xenon compatible FRM2/3 module -coding and that should do it?

There's a BMW guide for this retrofit, search for e82 xenon retrofit pdf and it should come up.

So can anyone point me to what the wiring modifications necessary for converting pre-LCI halogens to pre-LCI xenons are? The car is a 2009 E82 128i.
I'm having trouble finding a solid answer. I've heard of pin 2 and 4 bridging and pin 5 and 6, but is that on the wiring harness side (male) or the headlamp socket side (female)? Thanks. |
