Does the US 1 series have the Energy EfficientDynamic System?
I saw this below on the UK BMW website, but I don't remember reading about it on the US Official Release Information. I remember reading that the US version has "Components of the Energy EfficientDynamic System," but it doesn't say what those are. Does anyone know?
BMW EfficientDynamics Intelligent Energy Management system comprising: Auto Start-Stop (MSA*), Brake Energy Regeneration (iGR), Intelligent Alternator Control (IAC), Optimum gear shift indicator (SPA)* I posted this over at Bimmerfest, but got no response so far. |

my understanding is that we don't get auto stop/start at lights nor the brake energy regeneration systems in the US. no clue about alternator control. we do get the optimum gear shift light ... it seems to be rather small and not too annoying (at least to me).

AFAIK, the brake energy regeneration is a bit of a misnomer - it's not like the regenerative brakes in a hybrid but rather a 'clutched' alternator that is only coupled when the throttle is lifted. That means when accelerating or maintaining throttle pressure, the car's electrical 'juice' is supplied solely by the baterry; the battery is a gel-cell IIRC.

To my knowledge, we don't get any of it. Maybe the alternator control but I would not bet on it.

I would suspect that among other duties of the on-board computers is a monitoring system for battery charge levels - the alternator could be 're-coupled' as needed when charge levels drop below a prescribed threshold.
Here's the BMW website that covers it: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/t...eneration.html |

I believe the start/stop mechanism is only available on 4-cylinder engines, so that would be the diesels available for the euro market. BMW is working on making the technology applicable to 6 and 8-cylinder engines...
