Bent Rim- ouch. Bloomberg strikes again
This is what happens when a city has no idea of how to maintain roads or clean snow. This moron mayor hates all cars except his own. Hes destroyed so many avenues with bike lanes no one uses.... I know, the snow itself is not his fault- but he does hate cars- and I'm pissed as hell looking at this wheel. I hit a crater on 10th Avenue Friday night The amazing thing is that I did not get a flat. I bought the wheel tire insurance, so I guess I'm covered for a new wheel.... i hope I didn't screw up my front end- but the car drives fine so I guess it's ok

thats what you get for driving around with rims that filthy!
Kidding, thats pretty insane i would never take my car into the city for this reason. I always make someone else drive. Just too much to worry about when in NYC. Thank goodness you have the insurance. |

Man the sound of the hit was horrendous. I hate the dirty rims too- but it makes little sense to wash them until it clears up a bit- plus the rims on this car get dirty five minutes after you wash them. I hear you about the streets here- but what's the point of having a car if you can't drive it?

Sorry about the rim! I got a big bubble on a new run crap due to a pothole in PA. Had to replace the tire. Don't knock the bike lanes though. I commute by bicycle 2-4 days a week. Even in winter and I like the lanes. Although they can be dangerous because of all the pedestrians walking in them.

I'm a cyclist too- but Fuckin Bloomberg destroyed a lot of avenues in Manhattan with un-workable bike lanes.
It's bad for the bikers, peds, and drivers.

My 261s looked just as bad after
hitting pothole here in San Diego. Make sure you check your lower control arm and strut tower. It might make sense to do an alignment as well.

I would think you would blame it on the hard run flat tires, or the pothole. Or the snow covering the pothole.
I can't see blaming it on a mayor. Last edited by Jaguar66; 02-06-2011 at 06:42 PM.. |

The recent snow removal efforts have been dismal. As the leader of the civic government who else is responsible? I bought the BWM wheel tire insurance- we'll see tomorrow how good it is. Anyone know how much a wheel is?

Not just bloomberg. This whole country has the worst infrastructure system I have ever seen in a "developed" country. Horrible public transit, inefficient rail, poorly maintained roadways. Even Obama's $50 billion infrastructure initiative (something he actually DID that he promised) isn't cutting it, though it's something we sorely need. And even so, I've seen the same sections of the same highways under construction for years with little to no apparent progress. But don't blame bloomberg. Blame years of not caring because politics became nothing more than a popularity contest where everyone's demonizing everyone else, instead of figuring out how to best serve our country. End rant.

If you've driven across the country in the last few years it's become obvious we've got serious infrastructure issues developing. How/where to get the $$ to repair it? Well, there's your political argument. |

Holy shit.
That completely puts to shame my two VMR V710s I bent within one month of getting them. At least my wheels are still in one piece. They still look like shit though =(. NJ roads are just as bad btw. I ended up going straight into a crater the other day. Luckily, I was only going about 10 MPH (I didn't see it in the dark ), but damn that hole was big. 3 inches bigger and the entire wheel would have dropped right in. |

There is an article in the NJ Times this morning about the potholes in NY, from the perspective of a tow truck driver. He is making a fortune just cruising the highways, collecting the cars from pothole accidents. Pictures of many streets make you wonder how you could drive down the street - potholes cover the entire street (some where measured over a foot deep).
I drove from NJ to Brooklyn yesterday with no problem, so its not everywhere. A lot of the accidents are on the major highways, where you are traveling at higher speed. You can't see past the hugh SUV in front of you until they swerve - then its too late for you. But, I would think this is the same problem in any big city that gets a lot of snow and low temps. BTW - contrary to the complaints about Bloomberg, I saw the problem yesterday in Brooklyn. People complain about the snow not being removed. But, on the street where I parked, there were still many cars that hadn't been dug out. The city reinstated "alternate side parking" today, so they could clean the snow out, but can't with all the cars still maroooned. In fact, they just found a dead guy in a BMW yesterday - in Queens. The snow had finally melted enough for someone to see in the car. Sounds like it was another car that hadn't been shoveled out and he was trying to move the friends car for him and the blocked exhaust got him. (They think he was in there for 2 days.) |

I fucking hate these roads. My wheels are visibly bent in someplaces and now I have to go and buy a new set because they are unrepairable and can only get so many weight put in them... Worst places for potholes...new rocelle and astoria |

And on top of everything NYC will only pay you back $300 per incident. I've lost nearly new $350 tires and they won't refund me the full cost...bastards

Are you saying I can get NYC to pay for the damage? How does that work?

Yeah anytime you have a huge pot hole and damage a rim or tire generally you can get a municipality to refund you money b/c of their neglect to repair the road.
