Hi Scott26,

Can you provide a hint on how limited the production will be for the 1M? Will it be a number of units, or limited to 1 or 2 years of production? I'm hoping there will be plenty available to meet demand.

Thanks,
Leif W.

I have a big question about the brakes - will they be worthless like my M3's brakes?

I had to build myself cooling ducts in the front undertray, I'm using $500 pads on track that may or may not hold up well and squeal like a 30 year old school bus - things I shouldn't have to worry about in my $60k "we only call it a sedan for insurance purposes" car.

So now that I vented my frustration, can we get some reassurance about the 1M's brakes?

What is RTR package?

I've said it many times and I'll say it again: The 1M's performance will lie in between the base M3 and M3ZCP. :-)

Why are you so sure about this. This would obsolete the current M3 and piss off a lot of M3ers.

The E9x M3 isn't that old. It came out as a 2008 model.

I'd like to know the answer to this as well. I had an E46 M3 and swore off BMWs because of the brakes. I understand having swing arm calipers in the base cars but not the Ms. It looks like in the vid they are swingers where the base 135 has the real deal.

I've always wondered what car(s) you own.

No I have a M5 Touring and a 135i in Sedona Red it is the N54 powered car and I have not had any failures with it.

I also have a Deep Sea Blue F11 BMW 520d Touring which I have under evaluation till November. It is so new that the badges are still disguised.
The reason I get so many evaluations is that if I have to visit a location in Europe , I drive. So they need the data for future reference. The car is fitted with a blackbox style data recording computer which evaluates the whole car for feedback.

But if I have to be there in a hurry, say be in Spain by tonight I use the M5.
Which is justified by it's speed and flexibility, less so that petrol stops are more frequent than the 520d. Although my time with the 520d Touring has convinced me that in the real world it is surprisingly the most complete BMW you would need it just fullfills the requirements of a great BMW.
Although my M5 Touring was @ Ascari with the trunk filled with media packs for the M3 25th Anniversary , M3 GTS and 1M test drives.

Yes I am down for a 1M Coupe.

Fair. BMW tends to lag in certain things, where as the 135 is a leap frog on crack.

The ZCP takes the M3 to a whole other level. The differences appear to be quite noticeable. It would only make sense that the 1M beat one of them and not the other IMO. Look at the main page. The fastest stock M3 tested by a rag was the ZCP. I refuse to believe it was a coincidence. 3.9 sec to 60mph and 12.4@114mph. That is quite crazy. Notice I didn't even mention the handling which was turned up a notch too. There is no way in hell the 1M is going to shave the time needed to match such times off a 135i. It would really be unheard of, especially for less than 50k!

A ZCP M3 is not faster from 0-60 than a non ZCP. ZCP is all about handling.

Road and Track tested a non-ZCP M3 not that long ago and got 0-60 in 4.1.

I don't trust any of these mags.

The ZCP they tested with 0-60 of 3.9 must have been a "press" car...

Whatever makes you feel better ChrisK.

BMW knew the RS5 was coming along with the CTS-V. It wasn't just handling that kept it competitive against these juggernauts.

MotorTrend.com and CarandD tested different cars. The trap speeds weren't off my much. Its on the M/T site. CarandD should be avail for our consumption in a few days online.

Me too!! I took the plunge yesterday and dropped a deposit on a 1M.

As long as the base price doesn't climb any higher than about $47k, I'll trust the ///M guys to take care of the rest.
