i have a 2010. Kept in the garage at work or at my house 95% of the time....this week i noticed an L-shape indentation on the passenger side. Just had my car in for squeeky brakes and armrest repair. Didnt mention the indentation yet, will see if it gets worse. Not a huge fan of the storage bin, but it would be handy (but so are velcro shoes and i dont go around wearing those!)

I was going through the photo gallery for the 2010 135i on BMWBLOG, and I swear I can see the beginnings of an airbag indent in the interior picture. No storage bin, however.

BMW Bulletin 51.07.10

Don't blame the dealer, it's BMW's policy that the dash will not be replaced.

SI B 51 07 10
Body Equipment April 2010
Technical Service

SUBJECT
Depression on Top of the Instrument Panel

MODEL
E82, E88 (1 Series)

INFORMATION
A slight depression or outline may be visible on the top, passenger side of the instrument panel. This outline is created by the perforated edge of the lid covering the passenger front airbag. This outline is a normal condition and is visible on most vehicles.

Due to normal variation, the outline may be more noticeable on some cars than others.

Do not replace any parts for this situation, as this is a normal condition and it will not provide an improvement.

This is such BS. C'mon BMW.

I have never had this problem before on a BMW, or any car for that matter.

Normal for a poorly MFG'd dash.

I noticed this raised section on my car this morning. I can't even have them take a look, since I am sure they'll deny service since I put a bin on my dashboard myself. We all know they are not related to each other, but any excuse is good enough for BMW NA.

I do not even notice mine anymore. I agree though, theur quality control on certain Issues does not instill a lot of confidence. Maybe be my last BMW product. Dash, Windows that go down, HPFP, rattles, software, paint, Convert top.....

I think the airbag indentation adds about 10-15 horses to the rear wheels!? At least that is what the service manager told me when I showed him the indention in my dash! Kinda lame they aren't warranting this problem

mine has it too, i have bad rattles on the right most area of the dash and a pillar, i almost want to get the dash replaced just to see if it will solve the rattle issues rather than the indent

I have a 2009 and I don't have the indentation, but my response there would be "put that in writing so I can take it to my attorney please"

It's amazing what you guys tolerate on a nearly $40k car. I rode in a Honda Civic Si yesterday and it was better built than the 1er at half the price.

Who sues over something that is 100% cosmetic? BMW is under no obligation to cover this. They can simply claim that this is how its supposed to look.

And I also rode in a Civic Si yesterday. The build quality/interior quality is nowhere near as good as BMW (which is no where near as good as Audi). The Si smells like you are in an old canvas tent.

Odd reading the responses above about BMW not covering it. We had our car in two weeks ago for the seatbelt / sound insulation and tail-light gasket recalls and I made mention for them to check the dashboard air-bag indent...we're scheduled for a fix on Nov 5 for a new dashboard...no questions asked or comments to the contrary.

This is BMW Canada though...don't know if that makes a difference, for BMW USA and BMW Canada are two very different companies.

Interesting, considering the service bulletin is from BMW NA and guarantees they won't pay the dealership for parts, labor, or loaner fees. Your dealership must love you!
