Those motors are really small. All of them can't weigh more than 8lbs. |

ya but it's not just the motors. you have all the gear racks and and stuff. historically BMW power seats are pretty beefy. I wouldn't say 60lbs a piece but I wouldn't doubt 40-60lbs for the pair.

~20lb per seat. Also... with the sport seats you will get power bolster adjustment, but NO lumbar. (.....I've been down that road before) However, lumbar can be retrofitted .... (I've seen some DIY posts elsewhere)

It will be like the 3-Series, lumbar will only be availalbe if you order the Prem Pkg. Not available as a stand-alone option. Quote:
You will only have leather seats if you order the stand-alone option or Prem Pkg. You will only get the paddle shifters auto transmission and sport pkg. You can order the SP w/o the auto trans. and receive the items within the pkg. (minus paddle shifters). |

That's what the power seats in my E36 M3 weighed, EACH -- heavy muthas.

For anyone doing Euro Delivery, sounds like Sport Package is mandatory for Autobahn fun...

100lbs seems a bit too much for what it is, but it needs to be crash worthy, so maybe that explains it.
I was never tempted by the power seat, I'm pretty much the only one that drives my car and I have absolutely no problem doing the 10 sec adjustment a few times a year with my hand. Even if it wasn't so heavy, that's one electric motor that I don't need. I do like lumbar though, I hope the sports seat without the lumber is comfortable for me in long distance. It sure as hell feels nice when i just sit in it briefly. |

I'm a little disappointed that there IS a sports package option. I was under the impression that the sports stuff would be standard. Hopefully it won't be too pricey since the suspension and other items are unchanged. Also, I personally would prefer the chrome trim to the shadowline. Still, I want the premium package and probably premium radio (I had it in my E36 M3 and not in my E46 3 and I miss it) + iPod/USB as well. I see the price going toward the edge of my budget or possibly beyond depending on the base price.

why shouldn't there be a choice? some people, possibly including myself, may want "regular" wheels and tires for practical reasons. i intend to use the car as a dd over long distances on less than pristine roads. much as i appreciate the advantages of the sp in spirited driving i don't want to cringe over every pothole and other road hazard that i encounter not to mention that the all seasons can be driven in winter, will last twice as long and will cost less to replace.

Although RWD and all-season probably isn't the best idea. I'd reccommend getting dedicated snows and rims.
I think I'd need to go Sport, Keyless start, leather and bun warmers so special order. |
