How is it that Kevin doesn't rub but adrean still rubs? U both have fenders rolled and adreans on stock height. If anyone shouldn't be rubbing it should be adrean.

Agree with Kevin...

Random thoughts here....Advan AD08's run at least one size wider than what's stated on the sidewall and the position of the tire is affected by the amount of negative camber (top of tire tilted inward) and so under compression the tire may or may not clear.

I've run Invo's on my M3 and did not like them (my impression is supported by the C&D test). For the $, the hankook evo12s are great otherwise PS2's. Toyo T1R's aren't bad either.

Wheel diameter by itself has no effect on whether you'll have rubbing issues. The problem is getting a tire that is the right width and sidewall height if you plus size your wheels. On Kevin's car, I think a 225/35 and 255/30 combo would have been fine but would have kept the same amount of understeer (or at least the remaining understeer not eliminated by running -2.5 of camber up front). So in an attempt to make the car more neutral and not run a 255/30 up front - we went with the 235/35. The current 235/35 setup is approx. .8" larger in diameter and so it is more likely to rub.

^^^ All of these experts....listen people I have run Goodyear Eagle F1's before and had rubbage with the same wheels. Now I run Advans with the same rubbage....it is NOT the tires!!!!!!!!!!!

1. With CUSTOM wheels it should be a moot point.

2. Camber adjustments will not fix it as then I will rubbing the wheel itself instead of just the tire.

3. The rubbing/CUTTING is coming on the outside top edge of the tire not the inside.

Never pretended to be an expert but I have dealt with this issue in differing forms over the past 10 years or so. My comments were general in nature and not specific to your car.

If you want expert advice, you need to find a good race shop near you and have them evaluate your problem.

I know this "narrower" tire stuff makes no sense. But it's really not that confusing. I'm sure you bought shoes that were your size but were too small or too large. The same applies to tires, manufacturers just don't measure consistently. A 255 Toyo or Falken is basically as wide as most 245 or maybe even some 235 R compounds.

If your 255 tire rubs if you go to 245 it will be tucked in 5mm more on each side and has less chance of rubbing. Same applies to a tire listed as 255 that's really more like a 245.

Camber helps too. Most say a degree of camber gains about 5mm or room.

Adrean, in pics it's obvious that you are using full fitting tires for your wheels. I'm not saying that you want to since your wheels are custom but I'm pretty sure that you could go to narrower tires and not rub. Eagles and Advans are not narrowly measured tires.

Ok I understand all of that...I just do not have the luxury of playing wheel roulette....esp. since the tires are from Tirerack and not a local shop I could just easily return them too...there are logistics issues, so I would rather have these things fit out of the box like there were supposed too....

stock ride height?

lol pretty much anything. The 19" rim has nothing to do with rubbing, its all about height of the tire. You can have an 18" rim with tall tires or a 19" rim with shorter tires and be in about the same place.
plus if you're stock with suspension, you can run a lot more....

Depending on the offsets of course.

BTW I did talk to a tuning shop this weekend and to the selling vendors and they both agree from pics and the size tires that I am running that the offsets are off...the offsets are not even equal on both sides as well....

I gained my experience with tires and wheels on my Porsche 968. I bought a set of aftermarket wheels but they were cheap and not custom made. I tried to mount the fronts and they wouldn't fit over the central part of the hub. The sales guy swore he had a 968 in his shop with the same wheel so I tried harder to get it to fit and slightly cracked the wheel. Finally I bought some spacers and everything worked.

The original tires were Falkens which did not rub. I popped one and couldn't quickly find one so I put on a Dunlop, same dimensions. It rubbed and really didn't even look like the same size tire. It was easily 10 -15mm wider than the Falken.

Once while I was at the dealer I asked what I could do and they just said the wheels were too big for my car. I later learned about camber, rolling, etc.

Then, speaking of tire roulette, when I needed new tires I went to this notorious used low profile tire dealer off Cheshire Bridge road. I traded him some used stuff that I didn't need to let me try on some of his used tires to figure out profiles. What we found fit best were some cheap Nexens.

IMO, with offsets at 45et front and 48-50et rear, a "normal" sized 225/35 front and 255/30 rear should be ok. If the Hankook Ventus V12 EVO come in these sizes, then you should be good. Nice tire btw...

If your offset is close to 40 or less, then you'll have to find a narrower tires than above.

I agree with BarryC. You should be okay with an average fitting tire such as Hankooks at those dimensions. However, you seem hyper concerned so if you want to play it safe then go with a narrower fitting tire. The narrowest is probably Falkens but with Falkens the size you'd have to use in the rear is 245/35 since they don't have the 255/30/19 option.

I like Toyos best but the V12 Hankooks are very good tires at a lower price and they shouldn't rub and if they did it would be very tolerable. I'm pretty sure with V12s you also will need to go 245/35 as they also don't make a 255/30/19. Still, if you want to play it safe and go even cheaper go with the Falkens.

It's not that tricky. On the stock suspension, the wheels you are looking at fit okay. Small fitting tires will insure no rubbing. Average tires may rub some. Big fitting tires will rub significantly.

sorry about that everyone. its just i dont have the money to be buying and trying out new tires. the tires i buy have to last me awhile. im sure everyone knows that tires aren't cheap
