BTW an excellent review of the tires on CanadianDriver.com

http://www.canadiandriver.com/2008/1...inter-tire.htm

Not that he's not biased but....

“The Michelin X-Ice Xi2 lasts up to 75 per cent longer than its leading competitor,” said Normand Latremouille, winter category manager for Michelin North America (Canada) Inc. “The longer wear life is in addition to maintaining other top tire performances such as handling and traction.”

Tires still available after member Trowa pulled a no show/no call.

As I sat patiently waiting for two hours, I said to my girlfriend "you can always smell the timewasters. 50 messages, phone calls, dumb questions and then they don't show up."

According to the marketing brochure for the 1 series there is actually an optional tire package for the 135i that is the same size as your tires (which are the stock tire size for the 128i without sports pack). If this is true then I don't believe BMW would try and sell people wheel/tire packages for the 135i that wouldn't fit.

Only concern I'd have is that I read somewhere that not all wheels are equal even though the manufacturer claims they are in-spec. Might just be a scare tactic by BMW to get you to only buy their "approved" wheels. If it were me and my 135i I wouldn't be worried but you could always test things out by trying to fit one single wheel on.

AFAIK there are no aftermarket wheels that will fit BMWs that are designed for runflat tyres. Therefore, if BMW assumes you are fitting runflats, aftermarket wheels without the small bead retaining "bump" that is needed for runflat tyres to not come off the rim with zero air pressure, are not suitable for runflats.

Thanks for clearing that up. You really seem to have a strong grasp on this stuff aerobad. I think we should just ask you all of our questions and save ourselves from making extra long threads

DId some checking on aftermarket wheels for runflats, there are actually some available. The Rial Salerno, AEZ Intenso, Brock RC15 and CMS C10 are ones I found that fit the 1-series. The interesting thing is that they are all German wheel manufacturers, I haven't found any non-German manufacturers yet.

What is needed for a runflat tyre of the type used by BMW, is a wheel with either an EH2 or EH2+ designation (all current BMW wheels seem to be EH2+). This means that the wheel has an extended hump (larger than the normal bead retaining hump for non-runflats) on both the inside and outside bead retaining area.
