Passive Go Module Replacement

Has someone replaced their CAS module in their 1er? I brlieve its on the right side behind wheel liner. I may have to replace it since if I want keyless function working again. I tested the fuses and all are working. I would like to inspect it for any water access too ans part #. I drove my e88 in the rain a couple if days since my e90 was in the shop for water pump replacement 🥹. I brlieve started to have the keyfob issues after the rains. 😕

I just replaced the one in my 2013 coupe. The compartment was full of water and so was the control unit. I tried just drying out the module and got back everything except the keyless start (I still had to put the key in the slot). Picked up a used unit and all is fine. I never did find the source of the leak but I did install a drain in one of the holes in the bottom of the trunk compartment and also in the styrofoam tub the module sits in, just in case the water is coming from above.

Awesome bro, thanks for the reply. I m wondering if mine has anyvater too. What if the water is coming from underneath wheelwel?

How hard is it to gain access to it? I believe you have to remove the wheel liner cover and trunk plastic trim correct? I ve trying to find something online but not much luck so far.

Well very productive day today. I went in to dig in there and I was not surprised when I saw my module with some moisture. Was a kind of pain to remove the side liner on a convertible not sure about the coupes. I took the module out after frinkijn disconnected the harness conector which you have to push and flip to the side… freaking dam thing. 😂🙄 I had to figure it on my own. Anyways took it and saw the bottom tray with water 💦. I was shoot im sure my module is fried. Took my chances and dried out completely with a hair drier. Im like before i buy a new one I will try this. Removed any water sitting at yhe bottm of tray. Dried out for a few minutes. Plug it back on. Put all liners scrws back together. Started the car and same thing. No luck same maessage about the remote key not detected. BUT. After a few more tries. BAM! All woring good. 👍 Keyless access working again. No more error mesaages and now I can start my car with keyfob in my pocket. I guess If we can react soon and dont let the module soak in water for a long time we can dryit out and should work like mine. 😃👌. Now Im having a beer 🍺 😉

I forgotto mention. In my case most likely the water is coming in from the right side tail light. I had an issue with the blackline tail light replacmenet I got when the insise screw base got stripped and couldn’t tighten the tail light screws ever since. Meaning its set loose. Therefore water comes in. Even when I wash the car?

Now I know I wont be driving my E88 in the rain until I fix or replace that stupid tail light. 😠

Thats what happened to me. Had to replace the tail light and assembly to stop water from getting in.

My passive go module works great with all but I noticed it may have glitch. When the passenger door opens sometimes I get an error message on the screen saying “Key is not detected” even though I have the key with me sitting on the diver side. Engine running. Anyone else hasor had this issue? Mine could be from the last time it got wet? 🤔

I had to replace mine. No crashes and original taillight. I think there’s another design defect allowing water in.

I added some tape to block off part of the vent that’s in there, thinking there may be some backsplash when driving in the rain. I also don’t drive it in the rain any more.

Here’s hoping the new module stays dry!

Thank you. Yeah me too. I avoid driving my E88 in the rain too. I don’t remember seeing a vent in there by the Go module but I can look again. So thw water comes in from he top tail light and bottom vent? 🤔 . I know I worn hose off that area when washing ky car for sure. I think most of the water came inside from washing the car last time. Stupid me ☝️😂.

I have no clue where the water comes from. I am assuming that vent flap on the wheel well. But could also be coming from the drain channel at the base of the rear window.

But I have no broken/replaced taillight. But who knows.

Regardless, it’s a shitty design for BMW to put the electrical module at the bottom of a well with no way to drain

Just did it a couple of months ago. Took me all of 20 minutes to remove the trunk liner, install, and reassemble everything. Worked like a charm.

I'm not sure how warm the module gets (which would really be my only concern), but I wonder if sealing the whole thing in some of that rubber dip you use for screwdriver handles would help keep it dry inside?

Cool, did you replace your module or you dried out like I did. PITA to remove the trunk liner to be honest. For me I only had a small opening to access the module and avoid removing more liner. 🙄 I hope I don’t have to access it agaim. Will avoid driving in the rain and not to direct water hose that secioj of the car.
☝️☺️

In sure the ventilation helps cooling the module. Not sure how warm it can get. Im more concert about the moisture going inside.

An update from me:

The comfort access on the driver door now stopped working. I checked a fuse and it was fine. I also checked the new passive go module in the trunk and it’s dry as a bone in there.

Now trying to find a drivers side door handle with Ca, but am told they are out of stock and unsure they’ll be available again.

Perhaps BMW has stopped supplying them 🤷

Man that sucks. Perhaps your replacement Module is defective? Didn’t you just buy a used one and replaced it?

Thanks.

Just one on eBay and it’s the wrong color. Thinking I could get it to at least test it. Then if it works, put my grey one back and wait for supply.

Mine was bad for a while, so I replaced with a known good pull.

One more thing I noticed on this tricky Moduleat times is that when I dont drive the car much and battery is not being fully charging by alternator , it starts to kick that error message about “key not detected “ when its in my pocket. Not sure if this is due to my module gotten wet at some point or is this another “low charge” gremlin like in all BMWs. I don’t remember doing this before it got wet though. 🤔

Whenever the car is driven continuesly I don’t get this message l.

I don’t drive much either but it’s happened even if on a battery tender for awhile.
