Code P1014, Eccentric Shaft Sensor Failure
My car is a 128i with N51 SULEV engine. Three days ago, the Service Engine Soon light came on. A diagnostic tool borrowed from a local auto supply store indicated code P1014, failure of the VVT eccentric shaft sensor.
The SES light did not illuminate again after I checked the OBD, and it has remained off for the last three days. Is it common for the eccentric shaft sensor to fail intermittently? |

If you can, get the code checked from someone with a BMW scan tool. Foxwell, INPA, etc... The generic code that is given from auto store scanner can be misleading.
That being said, the eccentric shaft sensor is a common place for oil leaks and sometime oil even gets in the connector and can cause some weirdness. |
