Who has bought the extended warranty?

Who has bought the extended warranty and what are they costing for the 135i? I am considering an extended warranty in the range of 6-7 years and 120,000 kms.

Is it much more expensive to buy it later than at the time of purchase?

Does anyone know who supplies the local dealerships in the GTA with their warranties...specifically Budds Hamilton.

Thanks

Joe

I am dealing with Budds Hamilton and they use a company called Coverage One.

They sent me some quotes on the Ultimate Warranty which is a full bumper to bumper version. How do these prices compare with what others in Ontario are paying?

These prices are for buying the warranty when the car is brand new. If I wait until the regular warranty expires in 4 years they said it would be much more expensive. I haven't heard yet how much more expensive.

Coverage Onne Ultimate New Car Warranty - www.coverageone.ca

I think you have up to one year after purchase to get the BMW extended warranty. I might phone my dealer to check, I am coming up to a year in April.

I've been thinking about this one too, but that's not the reason I chime in...

Don't know about Hamilton, but the same company. My dealings with the sales staff at Budds Oakville was horrible. They might have been previously employed by Lada.

Just my 2 cents

I do not believe that is correct.
I have bought extended warranties on my 2003 Z4 from my BMW dealer just prior to the expiration of the 4 yr OEM warranty and I did the same on my 2005 Saab just prior to the end of its 3 yr OEM warranty period.
My understand is that you can opt for the extended warranty anytime prior to the end of the OEM warranty period.
As for pricing, I always got a much lower rate quoted as I got closer to the end of the OEM warranty period than I did when the car was new - mainly because I had lower milage on my cars than the average driver (approx 12K Kms per year on each car).
If you drive more than the average driver, then you might be better off financially getting the extended warranty sooner rather than later, but in most cases you're better off waiting til the end of the OEM warranty period to see if you're really going to hold the car beyond the OEM warranty period.
Oh, and btw, when you trade your car in with any unused extended warranty, it ain't worth dick..

Good thread.

My 2 cents: my only concern about these so called 3rd party vs. OEM warrenties is who decides what is covered when you get into gray area situations? I once bought a salvaged BMW w/ a 3rd party warranty and it was always a bit of a hassle getting warranty work done because the company would sent an assessor. E.g. I had CAI/exhaust work done and they tried to blame that these mods were somehow responsible for my differential failure. What a load of BS! In the end they paid but I had to fight for it.

My dealer explained that the extendable warranty could be added anytime during my 4 yrs of coverage, but it will increase in price the longer I wait. The day I bought the car they offered it to me for about 1800 bucks 6yr/100k. I'm assuming it would only go up from there. I've been thinking about this myself and wondering if 3rd party would be the way to go.

I got the same explanation: I can buy any time in the initial 4 years, but the price goes up as time goes by. I plan to upgrade to a 6 year warranty when the old tax refund comes in.

gnpower: $1,800 for 100,000 miles sounds like a deal for the OEM warranty - I'd jump all over that.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm thinking if I go ahead with the extended warranty, I'll wait until near the end of the 4 year warranty.

And Carnut mentioned that he got a lower quote later on with lower kms on his car....I believe I will be in the same boat with the lower k.

Regarding a BMW OEM warranty....BMW doesn't offer that in the extended for any longer so they?
