No radio or sound, bmw 118d 2010

Hi everybody,

My car did start showing a message remembering me to change the battery and a few days before doing so the radio did stop working at all.

I thought it would get back to work after installing the new battery but it did not. At the workshop they just did suggest me to buy a new one but obviously its quite expensive and I'm not sure its the right solution.

-The fuses do seem all ok
-The car has no sound at all, no voice or control or warning if driving without the seatbelt...
-If i turn on the car lights, the lights on the radio buttons come on and even you can put and remove a CD, but the radio does not turn on.

Any suggestions about what I may check? Thanks in advance.

Hi everybody,

Can anybody confirm if the fiber optic light should be on even if the radio its unplugued?
I did remove the radio to check the back fuse and notice the red light was not there.

Its funny because I did leave the radio off and I could see the light on just for a few seconds after getting in the car but then went off and did not come up again.



Bonus question, If I install a new radio, will it need the fiber optics to work for any reason? or is just used to communicate with handsfree module? Does anybody now if there is other modules in my series 1? I got no satellite nav, but unsure if there is an amp somewhere...
