Brake disc question

What is the name of brake rotor that have holes in them? I would like to research on what they are and do etc... but i dont know the name of them. If anyone can tell me the name or even better a link to a information filled post about them and what they do that would be great.

Thanks

Edit: changed brake "disc" to "rotor" :P discovered something already too bad i cant change the title

Drilled rotors are the ones with holes.
Slotted rotors are the ones with slits.

I'm no expert in this, but this seems like a good read:

Don't feel bad - I used to argue this point all the time - if they are called "Disc Brakes", there has to be a "disc" somewhere. Where is it? Have you ever heard of "Rotor Brakes?"

Have Fun,
Rick
