Engine Tick -- Is It Normal?

i only have about 200 miles on my 135i, but i have to be honest, though i haven't busted 5000 rpm more than once or twice, i've had some quick starts and hit 110-120 mph a few times already. so last night when it was idling after a 30 miles drive, i noticed the engine was making a slight ticking sound, probably from the fan/fan belt. is this normal or did i prematurely do some damage? my concern is mostly that i've accelerated too hard or used too much pedal too soon. i can't help it -- it addicted!!

Lots of posts on this.

It's normal... unless you are convinced you really went way overboard in a huge way. If that's the case, then a quick trip to the dealer will illuminate the situation.

But, be aware that ALL of ours are ticking away, too!

Yeh I have heard it, sounds like the ticking sound when your exhaust is cooling down after you shut down the car, but it not that because the sound is too consistent and it happens when the car idles for a few minutes after it has been driven and reached operation temp.

The hydraulic lifters and fuel injectors on our cars can be a little on the noisey side of quiet. It's normal.

mikeo,

That's nothing compared to my last E46 M3 (2006 model). No hydraulic lifters here, just good old springs and a load more rattles from the tappets and injectors than our new 135is.

Mad.

Thats not the noise i'm hearing, it only occurs every 2-3 seconds, only after more than 2 minutes of idle with a hot engine.

Or he just assumes that the OP speaks Italian since he is in Italy and is inviting him to Italian BMW boards.
