Rear View Camera / Front PDC retrofit

Hi Guys.

I was able to download the E90 Configurator and was able to add a rear view camera that can integrates with the Navigation Screen. Since this is an European accessory, it raises 2 questions.

1. Can this be compatible and retrofit with the US model
2. Where I can get this accessory from - My dealer does not sell

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Ebay already has the retrofit kit for rear view camera. However, the seller does not guarantee it works with US model. See his description here It mentions that it needs the "monitor" he sells in order to complete the upgrade. I wonder if navi screen works with this kit.

on a similar note, how can I get the front PDC for US spec vehicles? Can I just buy it from somewhere else that offers it and get the US dealer to install it for me? I think the ACC is the same sensors right? Just the software is different?

Why aren't front PDC and the reverse camera available in the US? It doesn't make any sense to me.

front PDC is the most that doesn't make sense. We got the rear PDC and front active cruise control! The camera retrofit kit on ebay is probably fake (non-BMW) since it's another screen to be installed in the car. Probably a 3rd party product.

I think realoem.com shows front PDC retrofit available for E90 - http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...23&hg=66&fg=95

Coco: That sight is amazing. Can't wait to order a spare body-in-white, only $7700!

Might think about a headlight washer retrofit though...

Can this be used to film someone having sex right behind the car, or what? What a bunch of crazy Germans.

You probably need some kind of software update to even use the front PDC. This software update may not even be made available to the North American market since it isn't an option here. You probably can't use an overseas version of the car's software since it may break other things in your North American car.

Also, the front PDC requires a button on the row of buttons down by the shifter in order to activate it. It's not automatically activated like the rear PDC is.

No. As I understand it from the European accessories site there is a separate small screen that takes the place of an air vent in the dash (item #2 from Coco's image in post 6). See this thread for pictures from the European BMW site. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10625

Surely you can get an aftermarket front PDC?

My mother bought an Audi A4 off the floor, and cannot live without PDC - so she got an after market company to install front and rear PDC. It works well.

Awww, shucks, I guess I'll have to wait for an E90 iDrive hack that lets you use it as a screen.

Well, I just scratched the underneath of my front bumper in the parking lot of a local supermarket. If I had a front PDC/camera, I could have avoided that.

There's a front/rear camera for sale in Canada. So I am quite sure it will work with cars in the US. Our cars are also "US" models as well with some slight difference only.

The rear camera offered by BMW mounts in the trunk - high enough to create a usable image. I think that would look horrible having a black dot in the trunk.

I also asked some European PDC customers about the front PDC and they say it doesn't work with low objects. So front PDC (unless its refocused) wont work on the cement parking space blacks that scratch the front bumpers.

I like the mounting of the camera in the emblem. I wonder if you can still have part of the blue & white showing around the outside of the camera. That would make it even less noticeable.
