Urgh ... Car goes to dealer for service and gets damaged!

Dropped my car off for its first service yesterday (~15k). Come to pick it up today and immediately notice paint damage on the passenger side fender flare . Looks like someone brushed a pole/another car with it.

Dealer is handling it nicely and agrees that is their fault and is fixing the damage. Advice - always check your car when you pick it up from service.

what i dont get is if dealer admits guilt and is willing to take care of it, they mustve known there was a problem before handing it back to you; so they were hoping you wouldnt notice at pickup????

Something similar (but worse) happened to me, once. It really does feel horrible to have this happen.

Luckily, the dealer also handled it gracefully.

Maybe I am giving the dealer the benefit of the doubt, but there were several factors that made the damage hard to see:

1) Damage is black on a black car
2) They did not wash the car as I requested making it even harder to see
3) I was picking the car up on a dark overcast rainy day
4) Damage is relatively small (maybe the size of a silver dollar)

Although I noticed it as soon as they pulled up (because I was standing on the passenger's side), the main reason it was visible was because it is located right next to the crease line (curve to flat) of the rear fender flare.

They also agreed to thoroughly inspect rest of the car and repair any other damage they may have caused - I am most concerned about rim curb damage given where the fender damage is located. Unfortunately, partially due to my surprise/anger and partially due to them whisking me away I did not check the rims myself (although I know they were perfect).

Make sure you pursue a diminished value claim as most dealer repaired damage will be reported to Carfax.

Damn Dealerships

Similar happened to me

Took the 1M for a wash at my dealership. Hung out in the showroom until I was called. I found it curious that the 1M was parked facing me in the distance. Then without me asking they explained it was because I didn't show after the first time they called me.
Got in the car. Got home and found a license plate frame imprinted in my rear bumper.

I called the next day and brought it in. Head of Services apologized to me and promised me a front license plate holder... never got it.

Still haven't been compensated in any way... (don't think just fixing my car they hit and tried to get away with is considered compensation)

Mehhh somethings you just can't help. haha

It happened to me too. I made a fuss in a civilized manner and got massive discount on several items. They fixed the damage and I stopped dealing with that service representative as he was not honest in his job.

I'm curious what dealer you took your car to. If you don't want to post on the forum, please PM me. Thanks!
