50,000km Service
Hi everyone, I'm approaching the 50k mark shortly. I must say the car is running just as good as the day I brought it home.
I have taken care of oil and filter regularly, spark plugs, front and rear brake pads, brake fluid, microfilter, air filter. Is there anything else you recommend I should have done or changed by this point? I plan to keep the car well after the warranty period. |

The 50,000 mile service/ 80,000 Km is a major one. I believe they replace a bunch of belts and hoses. I know when I bought mine the Service Advisor mentioned that if I got the 80,000 km service done within 4 years it would be covered under warranty otherwise it would come out of my pocket and it was an expensive one. I'd like to find out too, since there is no way I'll get that many km in by the end of the four years.

My oil was replaced @ 38000km (about 6 months ago) after my transmission was replaced. Deciding whether or not to do oil at the same time.. How is the 80,000km service under warranty? |

Is it worthwhile to have the Power Steering Fluid changed and Transmission fluid? I'm not sure what else I need to do. I want to keep the car in the best condition possible but would not like to spend money unnecessarily either. |

mine is overdue for 50k service, the thing keeps beeping at me but I have been away on holidays. Can I supply the spark plugs to the dealership and request they change them at the same time? how much does a 50k service usually cost? I suppose it all comes down the the work that needs to be done?

Vinney I'd keep doing what you've been doing. Regular oil and filter changes, otherwise stick to BMWs recommendation.

Thanks Kenny, will do. Regular oil/filter changes are a must on turbo cars. I'm not sure what to do about power steering fluid and transmission fluid. I think I will put these off until at least 60k or 80k for now. Car is still running strong

I have been doing my own oil/filter service every 5000k in between the dealership service.
Thought it might be a good idea with a turbo car, just to make sure. Once you get all the gear like filter spanner/ jack/ramps(my car is quite low to get jack under) its quite easy to do and can be a relaxing pastime. I use castrol edge 5-30,its not the bmw long-life stuff but i dont think you need it if you do oil changes often. |
