The keepers?

Car Wash (love it, works well, doesn't strip wax, works well in my foam gun)

Waffle-weave drying towel (my kids bought me one five years ago, still going strong)

Rubber Cleaner (seems to work when I really need to scrub the tires)

Wheel Cleaner (works fine if the wheels don't have big-time, caked-on brake dust)

Interior Cleaner (I use it on my interior, and the interior of my apartment)

No Longer Use

All of the polishes (gee, you have Menzerna, Optimum, and others out there, that work better, and won't cost any more)

BOS Wax (Collinite 845 looks just as nice, cheap, easy to use, lasts longer; others look better, and are easier to use)

The Squeegee (can't remember it's real name, but I have stopped using any type of squeegee--don't trust them in terms of leaving marring behind)

Paint Sealant (Use Optimum's Opti-Seal once, and you won't go back)

Split Decision

I have a Griot's Random Orbital polisher (Porter Cable) that I have used for all of those 10 years. It works OK for what I need it to do, since I tend not to add marring due to wash/dry techniques. Others with more marring will want to look at a Flex, or even a rotary, which definitely has a learning curve.

Griot's does have nice, friendly phone people, though. One of the better places to call and be treated well. And, I will continue to order my keeper products from them, and try out new items (microfiber towel/pad polish remover detergent--hmmm).

No Speed shine?

What product of Griots do you use to shine / polish the wheels? Or do you just clean them and use a wax. Thx.

I will be ordering from them. I want to get the leather care products.

I did nothing with the wheels except wash them. I washed using dish soap from Costco and I dumped a bit of paint prep for griot's then I dried using the Absorber, then I sprayed paint prep from griot's then clay bar from Griot's with their speed shine then I used Paint polish 2 , then I used the one step sealant, I used the 6" or 8" (I can't remember) orbital and their micro fiber clothes. I was completely satisfied with their products!!!

I also used their glass polish!!

http://www.griotsgarage.com look under their products and car kits...it's like the third one..
Just go buy the Porter cable 7424 Random Orbital. Its equal to the groits machine, and costs 1/2 as much. Then just buy your backing plates and polishing pads and you're all set w/ $$ to spare!

Not withstanding my post above,...Groits has some great stuff.

Must haves:
  1. SPEED SHINE!!!!! Buy the gallon for $29.99 Awesome stuff. (Removes bugs great too!)
  2. Paint sealant - Awesome as well. Easy on,.easy off. Bottle goes a long way
  3. Clay - Works great,..but havent tried any others so I cant compare.
Not so Good:
  1. Best of show wax-Looks great,.but a PITA to remove.
My Wax suggestion (For dark colors - Black, Red, Maybe the blues) is the Souveran Wax from Pinnacle
http://www.pinnaclewax.com/souveran.html

Looks pricey, but I have had mine for 3 years, and still have some left. A little goes a long way, and OMG it makes Black look like a pool of water. Plus it smells real good!
Goes on easy, comes off easy,..and I have tried them all.

Yes Dear!!

I pushed everything to one side in order to get the one in the garage. It really isn't as bad as it looks

I had mowed the lawn earlier and left things kinda all over the place.

I was eager to try out my NEW Griot's car care products!!

And beside who wants to clean the Garage When the Mistress wants you to put your hands all over her, and Drive her hard!!:headbang:

Can you use a paint sealant like Griots and then top it with a wax?.. Or does this defeat the purpose of the sealant?

I would wax and then seal, I was going to do the best of show wax and then seal but then I thought i wouldn't get as much depth as my car is white and it's not worth the time nor the money if I'm not going to get the results.

that seams odd ... you'd think youd want to seal in the wax?
but if that's what the pro's are saying I would follow their advice!!

I believe it's because the seal actually cures to the paint, which is why it lasts 1 year. If you put that over wax, which melts, it would just melt off with the wax. Basically I: wash>claybar>wash>polish>seal>wax>wax. That is my initial set up. Now I just add a coat of wax every 2 months and wash in between. I do a quick 5 minute dust then speed shine when we are in a hurry. Usually my wife dusts while I do a quick once over with the speed shine, LOL.

Thanks Katera for the info. I have been detailing my cars for years but only polished and waxed. I never used a paint sealant. I'm glad I can still wax the car as I usually do every 6 -8 weeks, I enjoy it.

Wonder if I need to wait a month or 2 before I seal or wax my new car. Will the paint be cured enough when I get it? I am looking at 3rd week in July delivery.

I've seen people hold the 2 and 3 polish in high regard, but what about the hand polish? Any opinions on it? I assume that's what you've used, Katera? Thoughts?

Not used the hand polish myself so don't know.

Yea, FD their window cleaner is just not very good at getting off tough stains, but on the plus side it does not streak. What I do recommend strongly are the window cleaner paper wipes. They come in a box of 100 I think, and are just fantastic. Not glue, no lint...nothing. I had some really hard water stains <our water is so hard here you can build stalactites with it>, anyway I used distilled water with vinegar and it worked great with those Griots wipes.

I think I am going to have to agree with the post above with the BOS wax. It looks fantastic but what an ass pain to get off. I am going to order a stick of Griots carnuba and see how that is. If I'm not pleased with it then I will switch to another. I can't see myself paying $85 + shipping for wax which is what's recommend above. Pretty much everything else from Griots I love. Give those window paper towels a try, you won't regret it.
