Wow, hope all is working okay now. How does the new top fit? Does it fit tight to the frame? I'm not happy with mine, on the passenger side it looks okay but on the driver side as you can see in the pics above it just doesn't look okay to me.

My top is tight and aligned on all sides. It doesn't look off like yours so keep pushing until it looks perfect.

Yeah mine is perfect. It fits better than the original top ever did.

I've had so many issues my dealer knew that if they fucked it up I wouldn't be happy. The shop manager and I have become friends and the guy absolutly loves my car, so he takes care of her.

On a side note the manage tookmy car for a test drive, felt the engine and then looked at the tires and was like, man you like to have a lot of fun with your car don't you?

he gave me a nice bonus by changing a bunch of dme settings to make my car faster, he said that so long as I keep driving the car like I was the engine will keep going for a long time.

Still haven't heard from the dealer, they would contact me today. Will keep pushing them to do the job well and when all is okay they won't see me again, will look for another dealer then.

Btw I asked them to replace the bump stops on the frame that could cause the wear issue and the SA told me they didn't replace them, they ordered the parts but couldn't find them anymore and so the mechanic kept on working replacing the roof, idiots

Holy crap that's a really bad service department. Definitely move on after this is done. Brutal service.

Have a new appointment, they'll replace the trim and have a look at the roof. A member on a German forum had the same issue after having the roof replaced and that ended up in a complete roof and frame replacement. Hope it's not going to end up that way and I kinda have my doubts if that's the way to go. What if you get a complete new roof and frame and have to replace the roof later because of an accident, vandalism or something else? The old roof sat tight and I think when you're replacing the roof you have to make some adjustments? I don't understand why they don't get a convertible upholstery specialist to have a look at it, those guys know a lot more about roof replacements? Might ask a specialist for some advice anyway.

Anyway, washed and waxed it early this morning, that brought a smile back to my face. It's good to see a freshly washed and waxed 1 series vert

I found out later that they do the same at my dealer. A company that specializes in it for all makes.

top tear

I have a 2008 that I just purchased and has only been in service for 12 months, and it too has the same wear spot on the driver's side...

Well I'll just have them look at it when I am at the dealer next week.

Thanks for the thread.

Car was at the dealer again today, for the damaged trim which they still say wasn't their fault and for the top not sitting tight on the C-pillar at the drivers side. Trim is replaced though but the idiots at the dealer still don't want to do anything on the top, because they say it's the way the top cover is made. I told them the last word isn't said about it. Writing a letter now to BMW NL(already contacted BMW NL about these issues). Also contacted a specialist and they said I shouldn't accept it this way. So hopefully I'm able to force BMW NL to get this thing fixed at the specialist. Not going back to this dealer anymore they're talking too much BS, it's amazing what sort of ridiculus reasons they come up with lol.

I seem to have the same problem

Just noticed today, and thanks to the forum, it doesn't seem to be vandalism like my first thought was.

hey all,
I have the same issue same side as everyone else, the SA said there is a buelletin on this issue and they will fix it, suposedly they have to re-align the mechinisim that controls the roof as well as replace the roof, they will have my car for 5-6 days. I'll keep you all posted on the fix...I'm using black duck tape for a temp fix....makes my car look like a junker with the tape on there, but at least no water will get in.

Not a big deal unless you feel a 40k 8 month old car should still look perfect). As everybody is saying, I have no confidence that the problem will not reappear and there doesn't seem to be any way to prevent it. I love the cabrio but I'm thinking seriously of trading it for a 335 coupe.
damn, the replacement best look OEM....my car has 21k on it and my roof was perfect until the hole showed up.

It's relatively variable who gets it and who doesn't. Mine is an April 2008 build and I don't have this issue at this point.

another top replacement

Just had my top replaced, again. I'm now on my third top in just under two years.

This top lasted about a year and a half, but had more wear spots than the first one. I had no problems getting the dealership to agree to replace it.

Looks like a new car again. Hope they got it right this time.

My production date was Sept of 09 and TSB is good for cars up to 10 of 09. Took my car into dealer and I am covered under TSB. Thank goodness.
