Hi Joe, I am interested as well.

How come the DCT gets more torque than the MT? Is BMW trying to preserve the MT clutches?

What is the FSC? Codes? Need for a 2013? If so does this mean the flash cannot be done?

Joe, there is a warning on N54tech.com advising that ECUs that have been updated by the dealer after 7/20/12 cannot be flashed. I received one of those dealer updates in November of 2013. It retarded throttle response on the manual transmission 135s and was a major pain. I have heard that the PPK gets rid of this unwanted effect... But is flashing really a problem with cars that received this dealer dme update?

I think its just in case your battery goes dead in the middle of the flash...that would be bad...

I'm letting people know that they can do something fun and rewarding themselves, for no more cost than a bit of effort. The popular argument against this is if your time is very valuable, it would be worthwhile to pay to have this all taken care of. That's a fallacy because if your time is actually that valuable you would be better off doing much more interesting things than a PPK.

Spoon feeding people information and holding their hands does not promote the kind of independent thinking, and logical problem solving that the majority of forum's membership desperately needs. If you guys could make decent arguments against what I'm saying I would just concede and be out of the thread.

We offer a coding service.

You are paying for our coders time.

Just like you pay a mechanic to work on your vehicle you are paying for time/labor.

You can DIY any labor on your own vehicle if you choose to, do you give all mechanics a hard time for providing a service and labor that one could DIY too???

He works well outside normal business hours to accommodate our customers, including weekends and late nights.

We have dozens and dozens of positive remarks about Joe and his helpfulness in just a short time.

Please cease and desist any future remarks about our services.

I run an honest business and do not tolerate negativity about my business; especially ones that are unjustified and have no merit.

If you choose to find the ways to code your own vehicle anyone is more then welcome to.

Nobody is forcing anyone to do anything here.

If you don't know how to code and need help we offer this paid service for our coders time and knowledge.

Any Windows OS with at least 15 GB free space on the C drive.

To keep proper voltage supplied to the car during the flash. If battery falls below a certain voltage, communication with the DME will be cut off and will require an emergency flash.

I understand that the DIY mentions that about the update, but we have flashed numerous DMEs that have had an update as latest as a couple of months ago.

FSC code is an activation code, which is required for models that are 02/2012 or newer and would require BMW involvement.

Not sure where you're reading the DCT gets more torque than the MT equipped cars. The DCT is treated the same as the MTs as far as power and torque increases with the PPK. The horsepower and torque literature for the PPK increases were spread across the N54 and N55 motors which also encompasses cars equipped with the Steptronic transmission. The Steptronic tranmissions were the ones which got the higher torque increase with the PPK.

Out of curiosity, if one gets the PPK flash done by you and the dealer ends up doing an update which erases the PPK, is it another charge to get the PPK re-flashed on the DME?

According to Car and Driver, you're right. 32 lb-ft for auto (Steptronic), 17 lb-ft for manual and DCT equipped cars.

For the guys that have done this with Joe, what battery charger do you guys have? Is a 10A or more charger really necessary? I only have a CTEK 4.3A charger...

That's my question too. I thought I could use my Battery Tender Plus, but its only rated at 1.25 amps!

For reference, the dealers use a charger that has similar specs as this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Schumacher-INC.../dp/B002Z2Z7ZY

However, I feel the flash is safe with 10+ amp and a decent battery, all lights/electronics shut off. We have done numerous of these with this process and no bricked DMEs yet, even some of them with the flash taking nearly 20-30 minutes.

Anything less than 10 amps, the risk is on you if the battery voltage falls too low and we lose communication with the DME.

But, I can let others who received their flash chime in on the specific chargers they used .

Joe, I get wifi in the garage, but throughput according to speedtest is reduced to about 10-12Mbps in that location.. Is that sufficient for you to work your remote magic?
