Cool 2010 135i Audio build

Hey everyone,

Wanted to do a build thread on our audio system and share what I was able to find out about our cars.

Cheers!

First off, our shop had a DSP/AMP from audison, laying around and decided to install it into my car.

Since our shop also does audio tuning, my mentors were able to school me on their knowledge on how to tune for front stage/time alignment 😁

Since the ap 4.9 bit is 4 channels I wired and setup the speakers to run the front/under seat woofers and rear speakers just how the oem audio system runs. My plans are to run a front stage setup, but since the base audio doesn't have tweeters in the front, it'll have to do for now.

Just for kicks, I decided to install a subwoofer that I bought back in 2015.. With an Audison AP1D we had laying around... It'll do for now.

We had some bavsound speakers laying around haha. The oem speakers weren't cutting it anymore so I jumped on these. Found out my rear woofers were dead, due to sun damage (dont mind the faded rear deck &#128531

Bavsound sells coaxial speakers for the base front and rear, but I found out that the rear deck has the cut out for tweeters! Components for the front and rear, big upgrade!

Since the base door sails didn't have tweeters I've decided to build my own! By doing this I can position the tweeter to the most optimal position.

I rarely have people in my car, so I fixed the tweeters to point towards my ears when looking forward.

After some more tuning, the speakers sound great. Having the tweeters pointed towards the driver seat has made it a quite pleasant listening experience. The Bavsound woofers give good midbass considering the fact they are only 4" speakers. There is still room for improvement and the setup will probably change as I try and figure out what is best, as for now my ears are happy.

Nice job. Especially w/t he custom tweeter pods & the fiberglassing / bondo work. I love this stuff, it's one of the things I miss about my days prior to being married with a kid.

You probably know, but some OEM stereo levels had 8" mids under the front seats, could be a spot to fill in along w/ the doors so you're not jumping from a 4" to the subs.

Yes, so the base audio systems do have the 8" mids under the seat. I do plan to get a 8 channel DSP so I can tune those 8" mids. That should give me a complete front stage setup which is my end goal and build a 4th order sub box that doesn't take too much space, maybe stack fab or fiberglass.

That might be, I was thinking the lower systems had 6.5" there and the higher had 8" but not sure exactly. Check to be sure.

I bandpassed and amped my stock 8's when I added my sub. Doing testing on them (w/ the doors running of course but w/ the sub disconnected) I could tell how much better they were performing and ended up keeping them. This is the HK system.
