Hello from a new owner

Based in Southern California, just bought this beautiful example from a fellow member (who is a terrific guy). Went for a shakedown run up Angeles Crest Highway today. What a car, what a car.

Congrats and in the right colour

It's an odd car, I bought mine in 2011 and it's still the only car I've never considered getting rid of.

And you'll just come to love it even more in time, that was odd to me too.

Nice work now drive the hell out of that little nasty thing.

Thanks everyone. Was between this and an M2 Comp. An amazing choice to have. Couldn't go wrong either way.

Good choice! I recently spent some time in an M2C looking to replace my wife's 125i manual coupe (great car). Nice car and all, great performance, but can I put it this way................ I'm now looking for a Black 1M for her..

Thanks! The tech in the new M2C is awesome but the steering, grip and responsiveness has nothing on the 1M. 1M also sounds better, even if it's a little quieter.

You and I were in the same boat. Found some great deals on some M2C's that almost made it impossible to go that route.. But the steering on the 1M, the heritage, the appreciating value, the sounds, and the body lines.... Well thats why I am now in this thread lol!

Great car congrats!

1M steering is amazing, it just feels great. It is quick and has feel, unmatched IMO. Put on an aftermarket exhaust for more sound.

Enjoy!

And the hockenheim silver colour in the M2C is incredible in person too.

One thing you don't get in the M2 is that the 1M is relatively low key. I love that 90% of people think it's a little 1 series. Someone even asked me if it was my wife's car(!). But then when that one guy gives you a thumbs up or takes out his phone to snap a pic, that's great.

Yes, understated, but car people love them.

FWIW, I had my car parked next to an M2C and the M2 is massive in comparison.

Interestingly, most of the attention mine has drawn has been from enthusiasts who can't quite work out what it is, but are fascinated by the pumped up slightly aftermarket looks. The conversation often begins like this "Hi, I just had to ask, what model is this? Did it come from BMW this way? It looks unbelievable! It's so crazy and wide? What's under the hood?"

Often I catch drivers in the cars behind me making that motion with their hands when describing it to their passengers, you know the one that you do with both hands when describing that voluptuous actress with the amazing hips.... funny.

Unique little car this one, and I'm convinced it won't be replicated so this is staying. Cars will come and go, and they have, but this little one stays.

Yes most don't know what it is. I was washing mine last week and don't like talking to people when washing because it gets water spotted but guy walks by with his dog and says.. hey is that a 1M. We talked and an hour later taking water spots off. : ) Cool when someone knows what it is. I constantly hear oh yea my buddy had silver DCT 1M too. I just say, nice and leave it at that normally.

It definitely is a very cool car and we hit the lottery. Also nice to see new people like the OP years later still working to get one. A lot of the originial owners were guys that got a new M car every 3-4 years and wanted the next one. The guys that are getting 1Ms now are guys that are pursuing the 1M explicitly. That is really cool! Congrats again OP. By the way, I'm in the REAL SoCal....San Diego... as far South as you can go in California and still be in the US. : )

So I have always wanted an AW example. Just love the clean look and way the rear stands out.

Congratulations!
