HPFP Issues After Rear main seal change
Hello Everyone!
First of all thanks for taking your time and look into this post, this is the first bmw so I am not quite familiar with all the issues, but I do search a lot but this time I have no clue what's happening with it. Car information: 2011 E82 N55 DCT 109.000 kms stock map water pump changed at 80.000 kms hpfp changed at 91.000 kms catless downpipe aftermarket charge pipe stock airbox stock catback exhaust The issue and the story. I left the car in the shop ( bmw specialist) for a rear main seal replacement. They removed the DCT transmission from the car, they changed the RMS without problem, but everything back on and then, they went out to do the quality test drive and the car threw this check engine code: 002c3e Quantity control valve, activation: Short circuit to ground. they told me that the fuel pump was the issue and I said: " Weird because the hpfp was replaced around 18.000 kms. and they sent me this picture with a bunch of codes i have to say that prior to this, the car was running perfectly fine and no issues whatsoever. The shop gave me a call saying they fuel pump failed and that they don't know what could have possibly happened. I got there to see if I could help before everyone the city had to go into quarantine due to covid 19. they realized the hpfp fuse was blown so they disconnect the dme and put a new 20 amp fuse in it. and when they try to connect it back again the fuse blew immediately. they said it could possibly be the dme or the JBE. but how could it possibly be this?? a RMS job could not damage something electrical or am I wrong? On the other hand, the car starts and runs no stalling issues. so I do not think its the fuel pump or a clogged filter. although, now everything needs to be checked so the car has been in the shop for quite a while now, luckily where the shop is located, will be out of quarantine on friday so they are going to be able to look into it. I have a list of what I have research from home, since I cannot do any testing because the car is not here with me. *check fuel pump relay. *try a 25 amp fuse to see if it keeps blowing. *check fuel pump and fuel filter if its clogged, try with another pump. *check if there any fuel lines or wires touching the chassis when the transmission was removed. *check fuel pump fuse module. *Check again ground wires on motor mount ad the one that goes to water pump harness by the crank pulley. *check ground on the strut tower passenger side btween heat shield and strut tower, close to inlet pipe. So any advice to tell them where to start looking for would be very much appreciated. I will be posting information and news regarding to this so once this thing gets solved it could help someone else. Thanks in advance and stay safe! Chris |

The shop F'd up.
Pinched wire, cut wire, stretched wire, etc. When doing the job the tech boogered something. Didn't disconnect the battery and shorted the starter to something ... It's on their dime to fix it. |

If you can, unplug these two connectors, the engine block and then the HPFP plug (connected in this photo) and replug them back in, ensuring that the wires are not crushed or mangled. If you don't know what you're doing, make sure to disconnect the battery first!

Hello Everyone, Ive got an update. while we were testing if the issue was the HPFP or its connectors, we decided to try a 25 amp fuse instead of the 20 for the fuel pump.
all of the sudden I started to see smoke from the engine lol. it was a ground wire that started to melt, so I trace it and it ended up being the pre cat o2 sensor that was shorting to ground. We lift the car and we look and there it was. we are replacing o2 sensor as well as the wiring just to make sure everything is alright. Will be uploading tomorrow. |

So they somehow screwed up to allow the O2 wire to dangle on the exhaust, melting the wire and thus grounding it to short circuit which blew the fuse.
